Bhai Usama,

Please go back to Ibn Al Qayyam's words :

TALBINAH means the kind of soup that is similar to milk in consistency. This is a beneficial food suitable for the sick, especially when well cooked until acquiring a soft consistency. The milk like soups, are as beneficial as barley soup, even better. Barley soup is made of whole barley grains, while the milk like soup is made of ground barley flour with its bran.

In this case, Talbinah can be barley's soup with out milk OR with milk, & Ibn Al Qayyam wrote that the milk soup is even better, when barley is added as ground barley flour with its bran.

I am definitely sure that Talbinah with milk is superior. The plain barley soup has its own qualities, I like it cooked hot with beetroot.

And even Saweeq with water can be taken cold as SATTU drink.

Assalam u Alaikum
Hasan Bhai, Can you please provide me a source for the contents that are in talbinah.
I had the idea that talbinah consisted of saweeq+milk+honey, whereas Ibn ul Qayyim has mentioned in Zaad ul-Ma'ad that it is saweeq+water.
Will be grateful.

It is better to ask Mufti Hazraat; if mixing honey in milk is available in Uswah-e-Hasanah.You can try making Talbinah with barley & water only, & you will realize that qualities of TALBINAH (strengthens the heart & removes grief) are better covered with milk+Barley+honey.

Urdu translation (attached) of Ibn Al Qayyam's words will reflect a better concept.
Ibn Al Qayyam wrote :
I checked the translation of Qiwam, it means Basis, consistency, constitution, support. So Qiwam al Laban explains that Talbinah is made with milk, & Allah knows the best.

Jazak Allah u khairan
I myself enjoy talbinay with milk, but what i understood from ibn al Qayyim's statement is that the talbinah reffered to in the ahadith consists of ground barley, which when mixed in water gives a milk like appearance, hence the name talbinah. I was curious to find this out because someone wanted to know if drinking milk with honey was mentioned in any hadith. The ahadith do mention honey with water, but i haven't come across any narration proving that milk was taken with honey by the Holy Prophet salla Allah u alaihi wa sallam. I thought if talbinah had milk as an ingredient it might prove this.
