Mustard (Khardal) is a miracle of
my Allah's creations, it is mentioned in QURAN twice.
Although many pickles have mustard
seeds, but Ibn Al Qayyam's advice is to avoid pickles & foods preserved
in Brine.
For those who love pickles, a
better alternative is to make Mustard paste with Honey, Turunj peel, Vinegar
& Grapes juice, grind mustard seeds & add the blessed healing from
Tibb-e-Nabawi, liquidity should be controlled to give a paste type consistency,
& keep it refrigerated. Add a teaspoon to
your rice plate & mix it well, you will feel that there are pickles in your
dish, Mustard paste can also be used as a salad dressing, over the curries,
Chanteys, etc.
Khardal seed is hot & dry, it
aids in digestion, removes flatulence, expels out the spoiled mixtures from
stomach, opens blocked menstruation, good for an enlarged liver, its qualities
are similar to Habb-al-Rashaad (cress).
Mustard sold in the markets is
yellow because it is made with yellow mustard seeds, plus it has E102 (Tartrazine)
which is a food color. And as the WEST says, Tartrazine appears to cause the
most allergic and intolerance reactions of all the azo dyes, particularly among asthmatics
and those with an aspirin intolerance. Symptoms from tartrazine sensitivity can
occur by either ingestion or cutaneous exposure to a substance containing
tartrazine. A variety of immunologic responses
have been attributed to tartrazine ingestion, including anxiety, migraines,
clinical depression, blurred vision, itching, general weakness, heatwaves,
feeling of suffocation, purple skin patches, and sleep disturbance. Certain
people who are exposed to the dye experience symptoms of tartrazine sensitivity
even at extremely small doses, some for periods up to 72 hours after exposure.
In children, asthma attacks and hives
have been claimed, as well as supposed links to thyroid tumors,
chromosomal damage, and hyperactivity.
