We have a Thurston Nature Center Committee meeting this Thursday Feb.
9th from 7:30 - 8:30 pm in the Thurston Elementary Teacher's Lounge
(across the hall from the Thurston Library). We plan to have our
regular Land Steward's Report, discuss pre-proposal ideas for the
Sustain our Great Lakes opportunity, and other potential Thurston
Pond-related projects. Hope to see you there!

Also, I actually got the minutes from the previous meeting done ahead of
time for a change, so they're attached!

Colin,
Would you please consider adding another agenda item for tonight's
meeting? Please read on.

All TNCC Members,
I would like to know if any TNCC members would be able to assist the
Thurston 2nd grade teachers with information and ideas for a student
letter writing campaign to support restoration/improvement of the TNC?

For this request, I represent the Thurston PTO's Green School
committee as co-chair and have volunteered to help organize support
for the teachers' to complete a Green School 'Activity' in which
"Students participate in a local community environmental issue by
doing activities such as letter writing,...". Last year Colin and two
other Thurston parents did their best to and came up with a good
project for the students to write letters of support for the TNC.

Specifically, again this year we are looking for ideas and/or
volunteers who can gather the right information for students to write
letters that would support any of the TNCC's current grants, projects
or funding needs, with ideas on who to write and what to ask of them.

Ideally, subjects for letter writing to support the TNC can be
developed in the next couple weeks, but if not, I am also interested
in hearing your ideas about other local community environmental issues
for the teachers to use in their letter writing lesson.

In case you would like to know more before the meeting tonight or if
there isn't sufficient time to discuss this at tonight's meeting,
please don't hesitate to contact me independently through the email
group or phone me at 223-8324.

Thank you and see you tonight!
