Here's an interesting article that we might consider using as a model for rehabilitation/management of the Thurston Pond/Storm Water Retention Basin .

 

1. Dredge pond so we can drain it and remove bullheads and other unwanted fishes (avoid chemical treatment if at all possible).

2. Restore the clear water condition.

3. Restore submersed aquatic vegetation.

4. Stock with fishes fishes of special significance that will help ensure that the city/schools treat the pond with respect.

5. Teach the kids about rare/threatened/endangered fishes.
