I recently got a new PC with Win7 (had still be on XP!).

I brought over my Thunderbird profiles from the old machine.  I am running TB17.0.5.

I use the WebMail/GMail extensions for POP service for when I'm at work behind the firewall (where regular POP doesn't work).  I have WebMail 1.5.1 and GMail 0.7.7.

But they don't work on the new machine.  No error reported.  But an attempt to "get mail" goes to localhost, and it spins for a while but nothing get downloaded.  No negative vibes.  No vibes at all.

I have captured log files, but they seem unusual.  In particular, I'm used to seeing a log file with a title of the form "GMailLog_7_35_702_10-4-2012.txt" (that's an old name, obviously, from last spring).

I don't see any GMailLog file generated now.  I do see a GMail6-5-2013.txt, but there's not much in it:

11:09:11 AM--GMail.js : GMailStartUp - START
11:09:11 AM--GMail.js : windowCount - START
11:09:11 AM--GMail.js : windowCount - messengerWindow
11:09:11 AM--GMail.js : windowCount - 1 END

It feels like the WebMail extension doesn't know to go to the GMail extension, but I'm not sure what has changed.  The domains and all are set up properly in both extensions.  WebMail is configured to do POP.

Any ideas?

Problem solved.

The WebMail Options window, Servers tab, lets you specify the port numbers for the POP, SMTP, and IMAP services.

At the bottom is a note that warns, "Some OS's block ports below 1024."

I had been using port 110 for POP (the extension's default, I think).

I changed this to 1100 here (and in Server Settings under Account Settings), and everything was back to normal!

Looks like Windows 7 was blocking port 110 while Windows XP was not.
