Hello all,

In the last couple of days I've been getting the negative vibes message when trying to log onto my Hotmail account.

TB version 17.0.3
Webmail 1.5.1
Hotmail 1.3.10

Anyone having similar issues?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Joel

I just started having issues.  I noticed that Hotmail has changed their look again for the one account that is having issues.  It seems more like gmail.

I have a new message in my inbox:  Get to know your new inbox.

Thunderbird:  17.0.3
Webmail:  1.5.1
Hotmail:  1.3.10

Sorry, but I haven't done any logging yet.

Hotmail noticed that has changed look. Now it's outlook.com. I think that admin must change webmail to resolve the problem.

I included outlook.com in domains list for both the webmail and hotmail add-ons but that didn't help. Has anyone had any success with this?

Still getting the same negative vibes comment after the upgrade.

Add-ons now indicate:

Webmail 1.5.2b1
Webmail - Hotmail 1.3.10b1

Also, checking the options for the Hotmail add-on now gives the following error:

XML Parsing Error: undefined entity
Location: chrome://hotmail/content/Hotmail-Prefs.xul
Line Number 7, Column 1:

That error is due to missing string in a translation file. This version should fix that problem.

What happens if you try to login to Hotmail from your browser? That's always the first thing I try and, many times, I find that there is a new prompting screen in the way, such as one asking if I want to give them my cell phone #, etc.  Yahoo and Hotmail break the "normal" login pattern more frequently than any of us would like, but that doesn't mean the extensions are broken.

Login to Hotmail on the web, remain logged in, and see if Thunderbird works then.

Sometimes it's a syncing issue with the DELE command and the Trash folder on TB vs. the actual realtime Trash folder on the web mail. I've encountered that with Yahoo, and now I select the Trash folder in TB, hit Get Mail, and that usually works better than if I select the Inbox.

Hope this helps!

What do you think I've been using to check my mail while the plugin was down?  I've already cleared the prompts from the new changes to Hotmail.  Thanks for your suggestion though, I wish it were that simple.

If this is the version you are using, it doesn't support attachments.
Better than nothing though while you wait for a full update.

Yes, i know. But does having an email with an attachment stop it from retrieving any other mail? I only had a single mail with attachment, and it disappeared when i marked it as spam, so i can't check myself.

move any messages with attachments to a holding folder until this issue

Possibly, but I'm not sure. The error i was getting was about message number and sizes. Not sure how that affects things. Then again, Webmail only checks the inbox, right? It could work.

What we really need though, is someone who still haven't gotten Thunderbird to retrieve mails, and who has an attachment among the unfetched mail. Then that person would have to move (or remove) that one mail with attachment, and see if that got things working again.

Yes, unless specifically added, sub-folders of the inbox are not
checked. Or to put it another way, webmail only checks the main inbox of
a Hotmail account unless specifically asked to check other folders. If a
mail with an attachment is moved to another folder, it's invisible to
webmail unless you have told webmail to look in that folder.

You could do the experiment yourself. Send two messages, one with an
attachment and one without to your Hotmail account from another email
address. Check whether or not you can retrieve these messages using
webmail, (I suspect not). The go to the Hotmail web site, create a new
folder and move all messages with attachments to this folder. Try
retrieving mail via webmail again. If this works, you have a means of
working around the problem. If not, most likely a new message with an
attachment was received before you checked the mail.

Same here.

Got 3 hotmail accounts in Thunderbird, the one that's already on Outlook.com works fine, the other two give "negative vibes". Cleared inbox/deleted/junk folders for both, and problem remains.

Hi!

I am trying to use the webmail extension to read email from gmail via Thunderbird from behind a firewall.

I have creatged a thunderbird connection to the webmail extension. I am running on ubuntu 12.10 so it appears that I need to use a port greater than 1024. I have set the pop server to 1025 and the smtp server to 1026. They are both running. I have checked show server status in statusbar but have no idea where or what the statusbar is - can you point me to it?

The domains tab shows enabled for pop (1025) and smtp (1026) are enabled for gmail and googlemail, connection security to ssl/tls, and authentication method to normal password.

My question is what do I need to do to set up the webmail extension to work with gmail, as it is not currently doing so. The directions I have found are terribly out of date for the current version of Thunderbird (17.0.3) that I am using. I created a new account and gave it a reply to address. I set the pop mail server to localhost, port to 1025 . I have lots of waiting emails but none are downloaded.

All help will be appreciated.

That did indeed seem to work, thank you.

The junk mail seems to be downloading into my inbox instead of my junk folder. Is there a setting or an exception that can be instituted to fix this?

Thunderbird puts all mail received via the webmail extensions in the
inbox by default. You need to use TB's own filters to sort mail into
folders if desired. I'd suggest marking junk mail using TB's own spam
filters, thus TB should learn that this mail and any future mail like it
is junk.

Unfortunately, spam simply outnumbers any filters you put in front of it.

Prior to this upgrade, the add-on put all the junk mail place in my Hotmail folder into my TB junk folder. I just want this same functionality back.

This version (hotmail-1-4-0b4) works for receiving and sending messages with attachments but leaves the mails on the server as "unread". Would it be possible to fix it, please?
And... thanks for your great work supporting the extension!

I have also confirmed that messages are left as unread on the server and attachments are corrupted when sending.

I' still getting  "Hotmail-SR-BETA: loginHandler : Exception : TypeError. Error message: szCookie.match(...) is null 354", negative vibes and that's cool (it's not). I'm using latest Webmail 1.5.2b2, Hotmail 1.4.0b4 components together with Thunderbird 17.04

Thanks!

I'm sorry to say it does not help. As I mentioned in this thread the problem appeared months ago (I can say not for sure but it seem to be around juli 2011, wow!) and is certainly not new, I just had hoped it would fix itself and realized it won't so I joined this thread. Maybe this helps to trace it down. It's a dinosaur :) Thank you for your help!

Ok, here are the results of the latest test:

TB version 17.0.5
Webmail 1.5.2b1

Hotmail 1.4.0b5

When I send a message with an attachment, I receive it and the file is not corrupted.  When I receive a message with an attachment it works fine no corruption.  When I read a message it remains unread on the server.  If I send a message and then reply to it, I do not receive the reply.  When I look at the reply on www.hotmail.com it is merged together with the original message as a thread. Each time I reply, I only see 1 message on www.hotmail.com but the thread count increments by 1 as shown in the image.  I hope this helps.

Hi,
Just did some tests with my own Hotmail. I didn't have messages grouped by thread as you describe, but Hotmail offered me the option of grouping. When I selected this option, then the messages were grouped. You can change this setting by going to your Hotmail webpage and clicking on the options link (the cogwheel top right). Select "More email options" from the next page. Scroll down to see the "Reading Emails" section and click on "Group by conversation and pre-load messages". You can then choose whether or not Hotmail groups your messages by conversation.
I'd guess that the extension cannot work on grouped messages, you need to have all messages listed individually in the inbox. I don't use the Hotmail extension myself, I have POP3 access to my Hotmail, so I can't test this.

Oh well, it seems to work fine now, forget the last mail. Sometimes hotmail asks for new information like telephone number etc... Yesterday I didn't check :(
I was able now to receive 500++ messages, it only asks for 80 each sync, but that doesn't matter much for me.
I did sent an email with attachment, md5sum did not detect any corruption in received attachment, so everything seems fine on my side.

Thanks!

Group messages by conversation must be the default setting because I did not change it.  I changed the option to list messages individually.  Now it works just fine, except for the fact that the messages still appear unread on the server.
To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an email to thunderbird-webmail-extension+unsub...@googlegroups.com.

Log into hotmail.com and change your settings by clicking the gear icon in the upper right corner and selecting 'More Mail Settings' then under the 'Reading email' section click on 'Group by conversation and pre-load messages'.  Click the option to 'Show Messages Individually' and click save.

This helped for me.

I have done all that, but the messages remain unread on the server.
Any way to fix this? Any new version of the extension maybe?

Everything is normal now except that the emails remain unread on the server.

I'm still experiencing the following issues:

  1. The messages remain unread on the server
  2. Replying of Forwarding messages including formatted text doesn't work (negative vibes, check message and try again). Cutting and paste the text as unformatted works fine.
  3. The special Italian characters ò à ù ì è é  are sent as ò à ù ì è é so they are unreadable when received. Sending the same using a Gmail account works fine. So I don't think it is a Thunderbird setting.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Well, I've got the fix from the web author.
This solves the special character issue (make sure to set your character encoding to western), the messages unread on the server and the issues replying/forwarding messages containing formatted text.
