I've been using the Webmail for a long time, with occasional issues,
nothing too serious. But today the Hotmail plugin is causing tbird to
crash whenever it tries to access my hotmail acct. I can still check
my other webmail accounts individually without crash, but hotmail
crashes it whether called on its own or simultaneously with other
accts.

I have:
Thunderbird 2.0.0.14
Webmail 1.3.2
Hotmail 1.2.15 (live)
Gmail 0.5.14
Yahoo 1.3.2

a little help please?

Exact same problem here since july 1st, I guess it has to do with
Microsoft changing hotmail protocols

I have two email adresses; an old one that I could still select webdav
in the option of the hotmail extension to get the emails and one I
created recently that dont work with webdav (I have to select
"Hotmail new site" option)

It's the recent one that makes Thunderbird crash.

Try webdav to get your messages if it still work (it should work if
it's an old hotmail address)

Microsoft said they would change protocol July 1st to access hotmail
via Outlook express or Outlook (whicj now required a new module to get
access to hotmail)

Good luck to the programmers to figure that one out.

Download the latest version...in the Files section.
Fixed it for me.

Yay! Thanks for solving my crashing problem! But now, though I can
receive email from my Hotmail accounts no problem, it won't let me
send any! Tried deleting the old SMTP localhosts and reentering them,
but that didn't work. Read on a forum that setting a port value higher
than 1024 might work but didn't. Any help out there on this one?

Couldn't run autoupdate. Kept crashing.

Start thunderbird in safe mode and update it or disable it once you're
in.

Auto update isn't showing the updates for me yet, have they been
pushed out? Actually, I just figured out why, the version # on
hotmailUpdate.rdf is still listed as 1.2.15 even though the link
points to 1.2.17.

I've been having this same problem.

Autoupdate didn't update it, I don't know why.

But I updated manually to Hotmail-1.2.17 and now it doesn't crash.

so i clicked on the file link , no Hotmail-1.2.17.....ok
can not update thru the Autoupdate in firebird
when to http://download.mozdev.org/webmail
tryed to download it.
OH NO, firefox wants to install it.
had to down load it with I. E. to get it to save to the HD.
so i could then have thunderbird to install it.

You can usually find the latest versions here;
http://groups.google.com/group/thunderbird-webmail-extension/files?hl=en.
To get Firefox to download the file instead of trying to install, right
cllick on the link and select "Save link as...".
