Hello,
I just joined the group after receiving an email from Alan Gutierrez.
(Thank you Alan, and Cindy, and all of the others who are working to
try to save these animals.) I have checked to confirm, and I do see
that my mother's cat is listed under the Algiers section. Does anyone
know what kind of progress has been made with any of these rescues? I
read down the list and it breaks my heart!!! One mentioned a dog locked
in a crate!!! Please tell me if I can help in any way, though I am way
out here in Oregon. My family is from New Orleans; I have many
relatives who still live in the area.
Thank you again,
Ann Marie Juul

Here's how you can help:

1) Go to NOLA.com forums. Post a message announcing the Pets page.

They're terrible forums. In 15 minutes, your message drops
out of view. Thus, you need to post the announcement
frequently.

2) Get them in this group. So that you are only reading messages
about finding pets, and not about other issues.

3) Look for pet messages posted with e-mail and e-mail those
people.

4) Post rescue requests to this forum, in their own message, not
wedged in the middle story, so I can pick them out and and
them to the list. (I create these forums because I can't
organize data if I have to search high and low for it. It
has to come to me.)

5) Remember this message, and tell it to the next person, so I
can focus on web mastering.

It's a start. An important start. If you can get enough pet
people in the same spot, you can start to focus on the problem.

Otherwise, Cindy just went to sleep. Needs it. Make sure that
when she wakes up, she can turn to a mailing list, and find
people ready to help.

Otherwise, she starts from scratch, going to every forum on the
web, looking for help.

Does this make sense? Is there anything you would like to
change? There are no hard and fast rules. I'm learning as I go.

Thank you so much for helping.

Alan,
Does this sound okay to post on forums??
..................................................................
Pet Rescues - trying to coordinate/organize efforts

A group of people are trying to help coordinate pet rescue efforts by
consolidating and listing all missing pets by area of town. The group
is organizing via a Google Group: Think New Orleans Pet Rescue Group.
Links -- To join the group:
http://groups.google.com/group/thinknola-pets

To check out the lists of pets by area of town, and to get other info:

http://thinknola.com/wiki/index.php?title=Pets

They have been scanning many of the forums, looking for missing pets
messages and accumulating a list of missing pets and the areas of
town/streets so that rescuing will be easier and more efficient -- and
will save more lives!!!
..........................................................

Should I add more? Let me know what you want the body of it to say and
I can start going around and posting it everywhere.

Ann Marie (AKA amjoregon)

Great. I'm going to fall asleep soon.

Post, and greet people, as I noted. When I greeted you, I gave
you so many things to do!

----

This is not another thing to do. I'm only putting it out there
in the off chance your a geek like me.

----

The way you formatted your e-mail message tells me you can
probably add pets to the list of pets. I'm going to tell you
this, and I don't want you to *worry* about it. You don't have
to do it, you can play around while you wait for responses.

But, only if you are interested, okay? Don't waste your time
on it if it is very unfamiliar. Getting the word out is more
important.

----

A Wiki is a lot like editing e-mail, except that certian funny
characeters make things happen. To edit the list of pets, you
only need to know two tricks.

Click edit on a edit next to Arabi and you see an edit box
like...

..........................................................
====Arabi====

* Friscoville Ave: gam...@earthlink.net - 2 cats (Boudreaux and Voodoo)

..........................................................

That's a wiki heading, and a bulleted list item.

Wiki headings...

..........................................................
=Heading Level 1=

==This Is Heading 2==

===Heading On The Three Level===

====Heading Level 4====
..........................................................

See? It's the number = that makes a heading.

Wiki lists...

..........................................................
* One.

* Two.

* Three.
..........................................................

And it will be formatted pretty.

Most folks like to play with bold and italic. They are done with
single quotes.

..........................................................
This is '''bold''' and this is ''italic''.
..........................................................

Oh, and uh, it's all flush left for a reason. You'll see. If you
leave space between the text and flush left, you get a funny
blue box around the text.

But, please, don't add a lot styling because that will scare
people who are not good at editing.

So you can play with your own Wiki page...

http://thinknola.com/wiki/index.php?title=Wiki_Test_Ann_Marie

I put some pets in there, for you to test editing.

But, only if you are interested, okay? Don't waste your time
on it if it is very unfamiliar. Getting the word out is more
important.

Thank you for creatting this I would like to think there is reason to
hope. I will be all the way up in St. Louis by tomorrow but will be in
the Baton Rouge area in 2-3 weeks to start working for my company again
which is starting up a temporary office. I will get someone to pick
them if they can be saved. They are at 3426 Upperline St., just off of
S. Galvez, locked upstairs and the house must be broken into - I don't
care. They are Rocky & Snowdrop with collars and tags and their food
and water has surely run out by now. The street is flooded but not the
upstairs and is probably down to the front steps by now as the
downstairs has never flooded, not even in 1995 when my car was totaled
in the driveway. I kick myself every time I think about leaving them
but I only decided to leave on Sunday and raced to get out, never
imagining I'd never get back in. My phone number is 850-438-6716 but
it will be different day after tomorrow. It's about 4:30 in the
morning -I can't sleep.

Please post your stories. All information is good.

I am not discouranging this at all. But other group members,
when you see a message like that, you need to pull out the
details. Okay?

Oh, and we need a status page.

And Cathy, send A LOT of e-mail to this list. Use it as your
notebook. FLOOD IT. I called here, I called there. Then people
can update themselves.

Someone help Cathy work those phones.

Thank you.

LAST FRIDAY AFTERNOON WHEN "THE CALVARY" (THE COAST GUARD) ARRIVED WITH
THEIR WHISTLES HURRIED ME OUT FROM MY SOMEWHAT SAFE & PROTECTED 2ND
FLOOR MID CITY HOME THEY THREATENED TO LEAVE US THERE FOREVER IF WE
DIDN'T COME THEN. AS THEY STORM TROOPED INSIDE MY HOUSE THEY FREAKED MY
CAT SO MUCH THAT HE SCRATCHED AND BOLTED HIS WAY OUT FROM MY GRASP &
HID IN SOME UNKNOWN CREVICE SOMEWHERE HOPEFULLY SAFELY INSIDE. SINCE
OUR RESCUERS GAVE US NO TIME TO SEARCH FOR HIM I LEFT THE WINDOWS OPEN
FOR AIR FOR HIM ALONG WITH ENOUGH FOOD & WATER TO LAST A WHILE..BUT
WHAT DOES "A WHILE" MEAN ANY MORE IN THE SCHEME OF THINGS THESE
DAYS? AS THE STAGNATING WATERS BECOME MORE TOXIC THE NEXT ACT OF THIS
APOCALYPTIC SCENARIO WILL BE THE AERIAL ATTACK POURING CLOUDS AND
CLOUDS OF EXTRA STRENGTH D.D.T. INTO AN ALREADY POLLUTED ENVIRONMENT.
SURE, SOMETHING MUST BE DONE TO STEM THE EVER GROWING TIDE OF DEATH &
DECAY BUT AT LEAST GIVE US TIME TO GET BACK IN TO SAVE WHAT LIVE IS
LEFT. I JUST CAN'T WAIT FOR THE "POWERS THAT BE" (AND THE LEVELS OF
THOSE POWERS MULTIPLY BY THE MINUTE) TO ENFRANCHISE US AGAIN AND ALLOW
US BACK IN TO AT LEAST HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS THAT JEFF.PARISH HAS.
NOW THAT I'M BACK FROM OUR FORCED EXHILE TO HOUSTON & SAFE (AND FREE)IN
LAKE CHARLES I'M PLANNING TO HEAD BACK TO "THE PROMISED LAND" THIS
THURSDAY MORNING EARLY. A FRIEND WILL LEND ME A JEEP AND I'VE MANAGED
TO GET A PRESS CREDENTIAL AND I PLAN TO MAKE EVERY EFFORT LEFT IN MY
SOUL TO GET BACK TO AT LEAST SAVE ONE INNOCENT SOUL , MY CAT
"CHING" AND BRING HIM OUT FROM WHAT I FEAR COULD DEVELOP INTO THE
FINAL SCENE FROM "APOCALYPSE NOW"...

THUS SPOKE COL. KURTZ..."the horror....the horror"......

what do you mean "banned" ...a so called "expert" was commenting just
this morning on CNN while discussing the potential increase of the West
Nile Virus, et al.. that the next phase once the waters receed and the
"swamp-like condition develops that spraying would then begin. when
asked by the reporter if the spraying would then pose even more of a
toxic hazard to those people and animals remaining he did not answer
almost as if both assumed the quesion was rhetorical...so why should I
be banned for relaying what was nationally broadcast...they're already
stating that we're already already experiencing an environmental
catastrophe...i just want to get my pet out before the he chokes to
death from the poisons brewing in the ground and soon in the air...i'm
not trying to be melodramatic...but if you haven't noticed, we 're in
the throws of a major event...

I was in mid city of new orleans (now in Lake Charles)..and i know from
news reports and now tv that the 9th ward, arabi & much of st.bernard
parish took in a lot of water possibly 4-8 feet more than mid city's
5-6 feet...as they were affected by the industrial canal levee
breach...so to answer your question...getting into st.bernard means
youve got to pass through jefferson, then orleans and then
arabi,st.bernard...i did he cory johnson the wwl radio reporter
describe that the water was still deep there as he drove over the high
rise toward n.o.east...i haven't heard or seen anyone travelling over
the claiborne bridge or industrial canal bridge towards there yet...
wish i had better news for you believe me...

sorry...perhaps not in so many words..but the status of her pets was
certainly inferred...in fact..some of the tv coverage yesterday showed
pet recovery which they said was from the lower 9th ward area by the
industrial canal levee breach which is adjacent to arabi/st.bernard..
