Hi,
If everyone is in the Carrollton area, I need two cats rescued at 1835
Short St. between Cohn and Hickory. runs parallel to carrollton
There is a gray/black tabby named Ziggy and a White Calico named Gilly.

They should come to their names or a clicking of your tongues. They
can get in the house but probably have no access to food or water
anymore. Any help is so appreciated that I can't stand it.

Hello,

If anyone is in the UNO area, i live a block away off
leon c simon. I have a black cat named pi trapped on
the second story @ 6227 waldo dr. She's out of food
by now, and probably needs water so if anyone can
help, please do. Email me back for more info.

Did you join the group justin? We're not planning on e-mailing
people back. We're posting to an e-mail list.

Please join the group. (I'm going to go make that necessary.)

Are all of these "need rescue" postings being automatically forwarded to
ORGS like kat...@ldaf.louisiana.gov, etc?

Nope. They would have to join this list.

But.. The list of pets is very clean and easy to read, and all
these postings are kept in a single searchable archive.

Why don't I just send an e-mail message to all the important
groups. If they have a web form of some kind, we can start to
use that web form. If they don't they can use this list.

Alan, I think someone is combining the data-base. I'm getting "need helps"
addressed ONLY to the orgs, not me directly. Is that what's happening?

I don't understand. Are you getting messages that I am not
getting? I've not seen anyone but you for a while.

Can you forward the last message you recieved?

Wow. Four pets on Short St and, I think, only two were rescued.

That's not good.

Dear Diane:

I was just in the Carrollton neighborhood yesterday, to look in on a friend's cats as well as my own property in the 2000 block of Pine Street.

Flooding on Carrollton started between Hickory and Cohn.  River side of Hickory appeared to be unflooded.  On your block, I would estimate the water was only about 6" to 12" deep.  I didn't see anywhere where the water was up high enough to enter the raised houses.  Altho' there were downed trees and broken branches everywhere, and plenty of water, I saw little damage to houses.  What damage I did see was generally superficial -- gutters, siding and loose or missing shingles.

You should know that National Guard soldiers (from Oklahoma) were everywhere in the Carrollton area.  I saw little evidence of looting; most of the houses appeared secure.  The Guard kept close tabs on anyone moving about in the area, both with ground troops and from helicopters.

When I got to my friend's house, I found that her two cats were in fine shape, and had hardly touched their food (or litter boxes).  The cats were a bit spooked, but appeared in fine shape. Food was the last of their problems.

Please feel better about your cats -- they are probably fine.  Everyone in the Carrollton area should breathe a bit easier.

Good luck with your evacuation and recovery efforts.  If I get a chance to return to NOLa, I'll try to contact you beforehand, so perhaps I can check on your place, or even look in on your cats.

Best regards,
Michael Bushnell

This is CatGuilt again. I have been traveling for 2 days and now have
200 emails to process. No word of my poor Rocky and Snowdrop at 3426
Upperline St. - permission to break in - water must be down by now -
was never more than 2-3 feet in ithe house if at all. Rocky and
Snowdrop are in upstairs. There is a fence which can be avoided by
going into the screened porch of 3424 and breaking thru a screen then
going round the house and breaking in the side door. I have posted on
every cat rescue group imaginable and am feeling terribly left out.

When that happens, skip the ones from this group.

Or follow the group online, or ask for a digest. Ask me if you
need help with this.

I've put your message on the journal.

http://thinknola.com/pets/

I've updated your pets in the list. I'm sorry it took so long,
there was a lot of wasted effort getting started yesterday.

Thank you.

The people who've offered to go into town, contact them, they
are on this list, but unconfirmed. Two messages bounced.

Someone who's caught up can...

1) Confirm the five offers for help.

2) Get them on this list, or act as go between.

a) Do not send e-mail to me directly.

Thank you.

Will do. But before you go. Could you tell us about rescue?

We found someone with a boat at the metarie/N.O. line  that was able to bring us close enough to our house to rescue our cat.  We also helped them rescue their 5 cats off of Elysian Fields.  It was a horrifiic experience.  It was very dangerous due to the water and trees and cars that were covered in water.  Those who save animals should be commended.  This is the worst thing that i have been through in my whole life.

Good luck to all in rebuilding their lives after this terrible tragedy.

we found some guys at the metairie/N.O. line who were resucing their pets near our area who offered to bring us to our house.  it was a horrific experience and dangerouse due to the water trees and water covered cars, but we made it and got our heidi cat home.

good luck to all
thanks
