  Thanks again Pat, you were right on, I assigned ownership of the following &lt;br&gt; directories. Happy to say that I am no longer having issues starting or &lt;br&gt; stopping the search dameon or indexing from my web user account. I&#39;m also &lt;br&gt; not having permission issues creating, deleting, uploading images etc.. &lt;br&gt; db/sphinx

  Hi Travis &lt;br&gt; This is probably happening because you have invoked the rake tasks that manage Sphinx as one user (perhaps root, via sudo?), but your web app is running as a different user. Everything should be run using the one user (I recommend whatever user your site is run by). &lt;br&gt; Cheers

  Hi Christian &lt;br&gt; Are you able to put together a sample app that reproduces this issue? I&#39;m not sure if the fault is in Thinking Sphinx, Rails, or Radiant. Your extension seems simple enough, and isn&#39;t doing anything complex, so I very much doubt that&#39;s at fault. &lt;br&gt; If you can do this, feel free to send it to me off-list (or if you put it into GitHub, just give me read access).
