Hi there,

I'm new to ThinkingSphinx and am wondering if it allows you to search
attachments (via paperclip/attachment_fu). Is it bad practice to
store all html text content in external files with a reference just to
the title in and it's url in the database? Could ThinkingSphinx
search that stuff? If so, is there any benefit to storing things in
files vs. blobs in the database in terms of searchability?

Thanks so much,
Lance

Hi Lance

Unfortunately, Sphinx itself only talks directly to databases or XML
files - and Thinking Sphinx doesn't yet support the latter (although
I'd like it to at some point). So, unless you want to store the file
information in the database instead - *and* it's a plain text format -
then I'm afraid Sphinx isn't the solution for you. I know you can
handle files somehow with Ferret, and I'd expect the same of Solr. No
idea about Xapian or others, though.

Sorry I can't be of further help.
