someone could seriously injure if not kill another person with a
screwless heart gear thrown out of a moving car. it fits perfectly in
ones hand, it can be rotated so its spikey. give that to a ill
tempered 3 year old in a kindergarten setting and someone is going to
get hurt.
i know that is a stupid example but where is the line drawn? who
draws that line?
and ultimately what and who are you protecting from banning this
stuff? kids see more weapons and violence on tv than at any point in
history and parents park them in front of that for hours a day.
all of this discussion on weapons is meaningless until there is a
clear cut definition of what is, what can be and what isn't a
weapon.
if thingiverse were to ban weapons, thingiverse would suck if i was
the person deciding what is and is not a weapon. everything is a
weapon in the hands of someone who is creative and wants to do
violence to others..
What if we just wait until there is some evidence of someone actually blocking access to thingiverse because of its content, and then resume this discussion once we see what things crossed the line. This is a good, empirical measure of offensiveness, and we can forget about all these censoring discussions until someone actually blocks the site, if ever.

George Soros, and the cretins in Great Britain that call themselves "green inclinations, no children" are far worse than any home building Gunsmith... And let's be honest for once, THAT'S what the "save the children" Anti-Gun Mob is all about, they fear "the masses" having guns.

Everyone of us lives surrounded by people with guns, but most of those are only to be feared by thieves, assassins, and thugs. That so many "progressives" fear that, people that can defend themselves, gives us a good hint about those sainted do-gooderr's real intentions.

Just because someone has a different set of values to you, is that a reason to resort to being offensive?
As for peoples intentions. Control of gun ownership is nothing to do with conspiracy, it's not about oppression, it's not so your government can control you. It's as simple as this.
USA = gun culture = 0.0279271 per 1,000 murders by firearm (No 1 in the developed nations)
UK = Gun control = 0.00102579 per 1,000 murders by firearm
I am 28 times less likely to be murdered by firearm in the UK and I value that.
I don't understand enthusiasm for firearms in US culture, and I don't want to encroach on it, it's up to US citizens to decide on the amount of regulation you are comfortable with.
But I don't want to increase the available weapons in my country. That is a value that is shared by a lot of the UK and citizens of every other country in the world as well (including the US)
So play nice J
Blair

the only reason i posted this is because there was a questionnaire/
poll when i went to look at the screwless heart gears on thingiverse
just now so they are actively doing something about it.
the only questions the community should be asking are:
who are you protecting?
what is a weapon?
who will be the person who starts banning people and things from
thingiverse?
if you have a semi clear answer to these three questions all this
argumentative nonsense about plastic printed guns and parts is solved

Being offensive? Come on, use the Politically Correct Clergy's anathema: Hate speech!
Control of gun ownership IS about oppression, and don't talk to me about Great Britain, that is, in my opinion, I can have one, HERE, nothing but a Fascist Securitarian State, with a Parliament for the Tourists. And it will soon be an Emirate.
When we Portuguese suffered oppression, you Brits had a blast calling us fascist Dago apes, and worse, now you "lions" can be arrested for 5 years for having a puny Swiss Army knife, on your pockets, just because a stupid Welfare Mother cow made a Crusade against anything that "might pierce the skin".
Every year the "Justice" systems puke out thousands of oppressive laws, designed to turn citizens into sheep. I don't care if it's a conspiracy, or just megalomaniac stupidity. Oppression is oppression.
I don't want to be controlled like a bloody Criminal, just because order-obsessed fools think they could be protected by making Society into a Concentration Camp.

you live in a pansy country that was once great where you cant even
buy a decent kitchen knife.
you have a false sense of security.
could you please pull up the stats of hospitilizations and blindings
from being hit over the head with a pint glass at a pub? I am
willing to bet there are many more injuries and deaths in the UK from
that than in the US. its actually called "glassing" in the UK if you
need some help searching.
87,000 glassings occur each year in the UK. to me that is a society
that is completely out of control.
this has nothing to do with my initial questions anyway. keep the
firearm regurgitated babble out of this thread and lets try to stick
to the simple questions, otherwise this will go nowhere.

It was pretty obvious that the OP had an agenda and then predictably
they foisted the same old tortured NRA justifications for pushing guns
into every conceivable place (real and virtual) they can find. Why
don't you give it a rest? Why can't there be a few places that are
free from this crap?
i never mentioned guns in my original post, could you please clarify
where you read that?
the gun crap was brought up by everyone else spewing the same crap
that has been rehashed over and over in other threads. so far nobody
has addressed the original questions that i brought up.

Not an NRA member, but having spent Friday talking to a gun nut friend of mine I discovered a particular reason that the AR-15 lower receiver might be on thingiverse.
Apparently different states have different laws regarding automatic weapons, and lower receivers are heavily customized to meet individual state requirements. California for instance has requirements on how magazines are ejected from rifles that directly impact the design of the lower receiver. For folks who are gun smiths having CAD designs available on thingiverse is relevant to their interests.
There are also sort of hacker style armorers out there too. Such as Valkyrie firearms in the bay area.
Whether you are into marksmanship or not, some people definitely are, and thingiverse does pose a potential benefit to their hobby.
And I hope that is clear to you regardless of what you end up choosing to believe is the right solution here.

i thought the UK had implemented the internet language sensor. it
replaces any language deemed inappropriate with animated gif's of
unicorns and rainbows.

Tell me about it, I once got an interest on those crazy jet-propelled Bicycles on Youtube that use the element Palladium; So I went to the Net access, on the now closed British Council, in Lisbon;
As it turned out, "Palladium" was a* verboten *word on those highly censured servers, because there's a porn Site named Palladium. I told them I was looking for the element Palladium, not the Porn site;
No use: It was VERBOTEN, no mater what Palladium! Case closed.

I would like to say that one of the reasons Japan didn't invade the US was because most people were gun owners. Think about it. If you were going to invade a country where every house you walked by had a gun in it that people could use countries would really think twice. I don't want to be in a country that relies on cops and the army for protection. Just the same as I don't want to drive a car relying on the other drivers to keep me safe. On a side note. If I were going to do some damage and kill a lot of people, (I really wouldn't in all seriousness) I would use a car. It's heavy, will keep going even after being shot, and can take out more than one person at once. Why don't we ban cars?
Japan attacked Pearl harbour in an attempt to neutralise the US fleet and prevent America intervening in the Japanese empires expansion into the Southeast Asia. America was never the goal.
Look at the logistics. Giant ocean, Massive continent to conquer all by a tiny country.
Who ever told you that one had a warped sense of history/humour.
Google it.

How about statistics for a broad enough spectrum of nations to actually draw a sound correlation from? The USA as a nation has been declaring war on various countries for decades now and are consequently the world's #1 aggressor, I really don't think they're a representative sample for normal degrees of violence in a modern western society.
