So a fellow Thingiverse user and I were talking, and we were discussing printer software (ReplicatorG, Proterface, etc) and thought it might be cool if they implemented a way to search/browse Thingiverse and pull STL files right into the app.
Inkscape has something like this for OpenClipArt.org so you can import things into your document.

Importing clipart into Inkscape or other documents is pretty benign and won't crash your system. Your experience with Thingiverse parts may be much better than mine, but at this point I won't try to print a part without analyzing (and repairing) it with Netfabb first. Some people put a lot of time and work into making sure their uploads are clean and will print. But others often upload STL files that are a mess.
Hopefully in the future, as people get more experience, that will improve.
Along those lines, the one thing that I really would like to see is a bulk download so that users can download all of the files associated with a particular design at once rather than having to do them one by one.

What if MBI was able to work out something with netFabb so that every uploaded STL was run thru the Cloud app of Netfabb after upload? That and a .zip download of all files for a Thing would make life great.

Programatically speaking, making a zip would be a quick and easy change. I
dont know off the top of my head what language Thingiverse is built with,
but in most, there are easy ways to create zips, or other archives on the
fly.

I actually started on this for Cura, but I abandoned it.
First, thingiverse doesn't export information in a consistent format. So you are parsing HTML pages that could change at any time. Secondly, it doesn't match your workflow. What you do, is you go to thingiverse.com, search for the object you want, and then you want to print it. Unless you replicate the whole functionality of thingiverse in an app, you are doing a step backwards.
What would be useful is to have a custom URL handler with custom links on thingiverse. Like a link on each thing pointing to: "thing://thingiverse.com/thing:xxxx" with a button "print this thing", then software could subscribe to this custom handler to receive nodifications and handle the downloading and printing of multiple STL files. This could be done with custom addons for each browser.
I just abandoned the idea (too much work), and made a simple file binding to .stl files in Cura (for Windows). So you can just download&open directly.
