I find that wiping acetone with ABS dissolved in it on the build platform increases 'stickiness' quite a bit.
It's odd that a flat rectangle would curl though. How large is it? Is it flat on the build platform? Are you printing ABS or PLA? Could you post a photo on the piece? That would help diagnose the problem.

A more basic question would be- are you using a heated build platform? If
you are new to 3D printing, or if you are moving from printing on tape with
PLA to trying ABS, you will need a heated platform for all but the smallest
ABS prints.

Dissolve some ABS (if that is the plastic you are printing with) in Acetone.
Then paint a thin layer of the dissolved mixture on to the build platform.
Alternatively print with raft.

For ABS plastic I use acetone mixed with the color ABS I'm printing
with, and I put that on Kapton tape. The build platform is at 100C.
Everything else fails for me.
For PLA I use blue painters tape that I clean with pure acetone, and
the build platform starts at 100C, and goes to 50C after the first
layer. I'm still trying to get PLA to work with fine details though.
ABS seems to work better for that.
I give the kapton tape a rub with a microfiber cloth when the platform is over 60c, you can see the tape polish up as you do it. I have lost count on how many prints since I last changed the tape. When that starts to fail I give the tape a wipe with acetone then another rub with the microfiber and its good again
