I don't know if would be any better or worse than the rest of the
RepRap type printers. It looks like a metal Makerbot Replicator, and
the company was started by the former Makerbot COO, Samuel Cervantes.
Apparently you can stand on it, which would be handy when replacing
light bulbs in your shop. They're in pre-order now, but at $500 should
I start regretting getting the $2000 replicator that I've now
officially waited the required 8 weeks for?
The Solidoodle looks like a great deal, but they made tradeoffs to get there. Like (based on their web site): no SD slot, so you have to print from a computer, no display, no lighting, one extruder, smaller Arduino, smaller print area, etc. But not much in the way of specs or other info on the site, so hard to know print quality, etc. But for $500, an assembled 3D printer, even stripped down, kinda rocks. I might get one to keep next to the Replicator, for cranking out mono stuff.

I was noticing the steel frame, and started thinking about some
people's comments about wood vs humidity, and how they have to adjust
for that occasionally.
