the "featured things" images on the front page look like a 4th grader
designed the page. scaling to fit is a bad idea and it really needs
to be changed. who exactly approved that and what was the thought
process behind it?
makes thingiverse look like an absolute joke of a website.

If you'd like to see it improved, it's fine to suggest that. But there's no justification for you to be an ass about it.
I agree with Windell - and you're being a bit of a 4th grader yourself in the way you're whining about some small detail of the website, rather than giving constructive criticism
and I actually think it's just fine - it's not scaled to fit on my screen, so maybe you need to get a bigger screen? it's a bit on the large side but I wouldn't call it a joke by any means, everyone has their own style, please try to remember that when you throw your opinions around like hammers :)
although now I realize that you're probably just a troll trying to stir up trouble LOL

How is knowing who approved it or what the thought process was behind it going to help you? Obviously Makerbot Industries approved it and I'm sure they had their reasons. If you don't like it you just needed to say so and why, anything else is a bit childish.

If this is about how some of the images stretch to fit the size for the main image, I agree with the sentiment. Some images are stretch oddly and the proportions are messed up. Did you check in with thingiverse support/ Marty McGuire?

We're aware of the stretching problem and we've got a fix coming. It hasn't been high-priority, but there have been a lot of featured Things lately with many diverse aspect ratios that make the problem more obvious. :)

i sent a bunch of emails suggesting it, no response or any changes..
its been a long time since its been like this (since the redesign)
marty:
thanks for recognizing its an issue. I really think it should be
bumped up to a higher priority. make some script that you invoke when
you select something as a featured item, have it crop the center of
the photo, generate a new image or something.. make it automatic.
you will end upwith some images with strange crops but at least they
wont be distorted. i know its a pain to set up but you only have to
do it once.
it just looks so bad right now. if you have a small browser window
open to thingivese and all that comes up is a horribly distorted image
of something and that just looks terrible. can you imagine if
makerbot did that on the front page of the makerbot.com site? i dont
think anyone in the company would stand for that considering the
attention to detail that i have seen from the company in the past two
and a half years i have been a customer.
