Subject: Thin becoming unresponsive?
I'm having a problem with my Thin/Swiftiply setup.

Everything works great for a while, then one after the other, my Thins
stop responding to requests.  Eventually, Swiftiply gives me "Server
Unavailable".  It happens many times per day.

Not sure what happens, nothing shows up in the logs.

Has anybody seen this?

Carl

Forgot to mention.  Restarting the Thins brings the website back up...
until the next time...

Is it possible to connect to a swiftiplied Thin through HTTP to see if
it still responds to requests?  I could just monitor them individually
with Monit and restart zombies when needed.  I assume it's not
possible since Thin are clients of Swiftiply and not servers.

If one of the process is hanging you can do something like this to
have a backtrace:

gdb ruby <pid of your process>

> call rb_raise(rb_eException, "raising an exception")

(more info here: http://weblog.jamisbuck.org/2006/9/22/inspecting-a-live-ruby-process)

This will give you a backtrace in the log of where it's hanging.

As you guessed, you can't connect to swifitplied Thins.
