Looks like this is it for Warner's Superman movies; their license
expires after 2012.

It's sort of a shame but sort of not.  Like, they can't agree on what to do, and the audience can't agree on what they want to watch.  Like, if you look at the comments, people are like, "They need to make it like Dark Knight!" or "They need to bring it back to basics, make him sweet!" or "Doomsday!  He needs to punch something!"

And every crappy writer/director has some "awesome" idea on how to handle it.  Give him a kid!  Make him King of Krypton!

I won't even say "how I would do it" because others on this list are more-qualified, and he's such an icon everyone feels personally about him, so even a degree-change from someone's individual image causes great debate.

Also, for some goofy reason, they always want to retell the origin.  We know the origin!

DC just sucks at making movies.  Dark Knight was cool, but I don't have nine hours to watch it again.  Loooong movie!

They have too many cooks in the kitchen, and their broth reeks.  Fanboys and corporate guys all scribbling with their red pencils across each others screenplays.  Just let it all go away.

Just do Ragman and leave Supes alone.  Ragman 2010!

I have serious doubts that this is it for Warner Bros. Superman films.  They co-own the property.  I doubt they will be licensing it to other studios.  The main problem right now, from what I understand in reading other articles, is that they are waiting to see how the legal wranglings with the Siegels are going to go.

I couldn't agree more. I like the character well enough, and Brandon
Routh was better in the role than I gave him credit for at the time —
but is there a compelling Superman story that merits such a huge
investment? If not, why even bother? If DC-Warner Brothers just has to
do an origin tale, do one with a character whose back story hasn't
been done to death like, I dunno, Wonder Woman. I feel badly for any
filmmaker who attempts a project like this, because between the studio
and the fans griping about canon and continuity, it's practically a
losing battle. The fact that J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" was as good as
it was popular is some kind of miracle.

I think it would be a mistake to let a pretty recognizable character like Superman just go.  Warner Bros. just needs to get their act together and start cranking out movies for all of their characters.

And I think there is a compelling or at the very least entertaining story to tell with Superman.  Brainiac would make a good villain.  I don't know if Doomsday would be the best of ideas but there's also Metallo.

So yeah get a Wonder Woman movie going.  Get a Ragman movie together for the September or February release.  Get a Green Lantern and Flash movie going.  But don't forget about Superman.
