Caw,

I have the chance to get a Rick Hoberg sketch this weekend (assuming he's sketching), and I'm having trouble deciding what to ask for.  I loved Captain Carrot growing up, and I loved All-Star Squadron.

I'm leaning toward Alley Kat Abra, since fewer people have done Capt. Carrot characters, so when you have a chance to meet one, you go for it, but...he does such a nice job with the Johnny Quicks and Liberty Belles of the world.  Doll Man?

Help me out.

Tom Derenick will also be there, and I have to get a Shadowpact character from him, so the only decision there is which one.

Hoberg - Captain Carrot or All-Star Squadron, and once the team is chosen, which member?
Derenick - Which Shadowpact member?

Thanks, fools.

Sounds like so much fun!

How about a two character sketch?  Fastback (Captain Carrot) and Jay Garrick (Flash) together!  Or if your heart is set on Alley Kat Abra, have her holding the Spear of Destiny from All-Star Squadron.

Shadowpact?  C'mon, you know I'm gonna say Blue Devil.  I'll even post it on ONCE UPON A GEEK if you can get a good scan of it.  However, if you don't want BD, the obvious answer would be Detective Chimp doing something funny.

Have a great time!

Long story short, sketches were hard to come by, but for the price of two sketches I got two AMAZING pages, incredible montages from All Star Squadron #31 and Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew #15.  Sort of can't believe it.  For the Dr. Fate fans, he appears in BOTH pages.  Dr. Fate in Captain Carrot?  It's true!

Uncle Sam approves.

Those were both from Hoberg.  Derenick became the main draw at the place, since Len Wein (creator of Wolverine) was ill, so he was charging more and had a longer line.  I'll have to get him another time.  Think I scored well with the Hoberg pages.  Satisfied my wish-list of Squadron and Carrot peeps and got two historically significant pages that I read as a boy.  I bet half of you have these issues!

Anyway, here's a link to view them both:  http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryNew.asp?GCat=22988

Those are awesome pages!  Maybe not as awesome as Alley Kat Abra holding the Spear of Destiny, but awesome still the same.  :)

Great finds!

That is the exact sketch I asked for, but he was...slow.  He doesn't do many cons, and he's not a quick-sketch guy.  He doesn't need to be, he's loaded off of his work for Lucas Arts.  Loaded!  I think he ended up doing two sketches the whole show, and I had play rehearsal, so I couldn't wait it out.  I asked him about it, and he said it was a cool idea, and he had a great idea for a "Norse Spear" but it would have taken more time than I had.   I "settled" for the pages (which I am very happy with).

I'm going to one this Sunday, but no old-school guys.  Mick Gray, though.  Maybe I'll get Promethea holding that famous spear!

Glad you like them.
