I've only had it for a couple days, but the iPhone/iPod touch Kindle app is great. The text is far more readable than I had anticipated, and being able to turn the pages via screen touch makes it more of a 'proper' reading experience. What really made me enthusiastic has been the free content the Kindle store has to offer- I've picked up older public domain books like Mark Twain's stories, a current bestseller Serial, and a Terry Pratchett novel (Magic Kingdom for Sale). I also bought a book on Norse mythology for 80 cents.
I wasn't impressed with the whole Kindle concept originally, even after getting a chance to play around with one of the first generation units UNF has, but I've really warmed to the technology. When I was showing off the app to my father at lunch, a patron at the table beside me had to show us her current generation model and extol the benefits of it- her arthritis and declining vision made reading paperbacks difficult, and with the Kindle she could carry an entire library (including periodicals and newspapers). I still won't part with the three hundred or so bucks for a current Kindle, but I finally understand the usefulness and power of this little device.

That's cool.  I have no doubt that digital readers are where we are heading. It's nice to see them getting closer to being practical.
