Okay. It seems we all can agree to disagree on the best Doctor Who
companion. So, lets start a discussion and post our favorite companion but
broken out with classic Doctor Who in one list, 1963-2004, and the modern
Doctor Who in the other, 2005-Present.

Starting with modern, from most favorite to least favorite for me:

1. Captain Jack
2. Martha
3. Rose
4. River Song
4. Mickie
5. Donna
6. Rory
7. Amy

Of course, there are a few in that list that were not constant companions
(i.e. Captain Jack) but I thought it still necessary to list them as they
were assistance in more than two episodes.

Classic series only encompasses the Tom Baker and Peter Davidson years for
me as those are the only classic episodes I watched, from most favorite to
least:

1. Romana 1 & 2
2. K-9
3. Harry
4. Sarah
5. Adric
6. Leela
7. Turlough
8. Nyssa
9. Tegan

I'll put together my list tonight.  However I wanted to share this link that might help people with their choices.

I'm a Johnny-Come-Lately to Doctor Who, so I can't really comment on
the classic series too much. And I haven't seen the latest season, so
this list will be somewhat shorter!

1. Donna
2. Rose
3. Martha
4. Jack
5. River

(Left off: Amy, Rory.)

Donna is far and away the best of this group. She and the Doctor were
a great team, and her point of view with all the craziness almost
always brought a smile to my face. She had some of my favorite
moments and episodes from the entire run. Turn Left was great, her
role in Fires of Pompeii was very memorable, she did excellent comedy
(ie, The Lion And The Wasp), and her reaction to the death of Miss
Evangelista was extremely heartfelt and soulful. Rose rates second
because she was the first one I watched, and she had some fiestiness
but she got very grating, especially with Tenant. Martha barely had a
character and was more of a stand-in than anything else. I had great
expectations of her and none of them came true. Jack was shoved down
my throat over and over and over and he's just not interesting in the
least. Any time he showed up it drew groans from this viewer. And
River Song, based solely on Silence In The Library and Forest Of The
Dead, is atrocious; I hate characters introduced for the specific
reason of being "special" and she is a very good example of that
particular trope.
