Now this would be interesting. I hate channel surfing; the ability to do a simple Google-style search for programs would be of value to me.

Cable already lets me do this. Dr Jenn showed me how i can do this and now i DVR Magnum PI everyday at 3PM...so suck on that Goog!

I won't be going back to Comcast for TV. Ever. It's either satellite or FiOS for me.

i understand that. Brighthouse/Comcast/whatevertheygobythisweek is super friggin expensive, but i like that i get ESPN U and SunSports without having to buy an additional package. That and the fact i live in an apartment now and have no where to put my dish with a SW vantage point.

But it's the TiVO/DVR that let's you do it--you can search by a variety of things to set up recordings if you have the service so it's not that much of a stretch to use it for searching for current shows instead of browsing the listing/channel surfing. So satellite+TiVO (or similar service) and you're there.

I'll have to check on what's more cost effective- my current Direct TV DVR or a Tivo. Having Google provide the service in exchange for data on my viewing habits seems like a fair exchange, especially if they can integrate the service into other products they provide (like being able to control it remotely from a tab in Gmail or Talk).
