I thought some of you might get a kick out of this-- or, who knows?  Maybe someone will apply.

Subject: CFP - The Dark Knight of the Academy (Scholars Exploring Batman)

Dear Colleagues,

The summer of 2010 marks the third installment of the International Popular Culture series at Henderson State University.  The subtitle for the conference could just as easily be: “Why Batman Matters!”  A scholarly exploration of the Batman universe, from its inception through multiple incarnations on screen and in print, will take place at Henderson State University, July 16-18, 2010. Papers on any topic associated with Batman – the movies, the graphic novels, the television shows and cartoons – and from any scholarly discipline are invited. I’ve included the CFP in the body of this email and as a .pdf attachment.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Papers on any topic associated with Batman – the movies, the graphic novels, the television shows and cartoons – are invited. Papers should be no more than 20 minutes reading time (roughly 3000-3500 words). Panel proposals are also encouraged. Electronic submissions are preferred.

The Keynote Speaker’s identity is a closely held secret to be revealed on the website, www.hsuphilosophy.com, in the coming months. Suffice to say here (teaser alert!) that our keynoter is a widely recognized scholar in the field of graphic novels and their popular culture significance. He is widely published and a Batman expert (as well as a fan).

Inquiries, abstracts, and panel proposals should be directed to:
