Hi
i have been silent on this forum so far because , honestly, i had nothing important to contribute.
Now, however, this email by Amit has given an idea. The project is to test the brand creation power of blogs and alternative media.
The project runs like this: We take a relatively unknown product, and try and spread awareness about the product through our blogs.
We do a pre and post measurement of awareness and recall among our core members(that would be members of this group) and the readers (that would be our readers)
How will we do this? As a group. All of us acting together. A case study like this has never been done and will add immense weight to our ideology.
The logistics is like this:
Pre-measurement: I will create a pre-poll on awareness and recall. We will all point our readers to this poll and request them to participate in the study. We will also participate.
Message Generation: In a given week, all of us who participate in the project will write a post about the product and will point readers to more information on the product.
Post measurement: After the given week is over, we will post links to the post measurement and request all readers to enter a simple post poll on awareness and recall. The poll will remain open for a fortnight so we can capture almost all our readers.
After this, we will analyse the results and make a business case of blogs as alternative media. Next time we talk, will have the figures we need to back our feelings.
I can help in the following ways:
A. Find a product - An organisation called Esha which is into a unique product. We could use this product for our project, because it is a relatively unknown product.
B. Design the pre and post polls.
Will need help in the following areas:
A. Obviously, more and more delhi bloggers to join the project. By using the Delhi Bloggers group, we are controlling a very important variable - location of the alternate media and its correlation with the location of the readers. There is no other way to control this variable, and am sure Delhi is among the few cities that has this kind of a group.
B. Analysis of data. I am just a little hard pressed for the kind of time that this activity will take, being a working mom and all .. but i can provide most of the guidance and will pitch in with work if someone can join hands here.
What's in it for me?
Esha is a non profit organisation. I make no money on Esha and no prestige from it. Esha is into employment for the visually disabled and creates braille enabled visiting cards. You can see more about it at
www.braillecards.org.
I am doing this bcs i saw synergy in these two bodies - Esha and Delhi bloggers as an alternate media, and thought we could channelise this synergy to create something that helps both.
Disclaimer: it is important for everyone here to know this - Esha, and the idea of blind people as entrepreneurs, was my idea and I am the person behind Esha. It is not an NGO, merely an initiative by me and some other volunteers, to make employment with dignity, a reality for talented blind people who are denied employment because of their disability. We try and create entrepreneurs, and not just workers. Braille enabled visiting cards is one of the four products that we deliver.
