The Authoritarians Audiobook

Hello Guys,

My name is Rick Roane of Cherry Hill Publishing. We have just
completed production of the audiobook version of "The
Authoritarians." The book is read by Dr. Altemeyer himself, with the
foreword provided by John Dean.

The book will be available only at Audible.com for the first several
months. However, this project is about getting the word out and not
about profit. Therefore, the price for download at Audible.com will be
the absolute minimum price we could arrange: $4.95.

We will be uploading to the Audible.com server in the next couple of
days. The book should go live in about a week or so.

First, thank you Rick for producing this audio book.

Second, you mention that you are attempting to keep the price low, so
are only charging $4.95 on Audible.com. However, when I went there, I
was told that it would cost me over $10.00, but could sign up as a
member for a special monthly price of $7.49 for the first 3 months,
and could cancel at any time.

Third, I'm also wondering as to why you decided to use Audible.com for
distributing the downloadable version, if, as you state below, that

"this project is about getting the word out and not about profit."

And fourth, as you know, audible uses their own DRM format .aa, which
will not play on all portable players, and is impossible to share with
others. What other ways are you planning on distributing the audio
version? And, will it be a closed format or open?

Hi Chris,

Thanks so much for taking the time to write. We are actually engaged in a
bit of a battle with Audible over the price they are using on their site,
which actually caught us by surprise when it appeared. It turns out that
the terms of our contract with Audible only recognizes Cherry Hill
Publishing's price as a "minimum." Our published price for the download
version is $4.95. Dr. Altemeyer is also a bit stressed by this situation
and I am doing my best to correct it. Also, our contract with Audible gives
them exclusive rights to the downloadable version. However...

I'm on the 5th CD of the audio package, and I'm finding it
devestating. I live among Fundamentalists, and hear people saying the
things Altemeyer talks about almost daily.
He is so "right on" that it's eerie.
