Do you have ideas for software you want to write, but you never get
around to writing it? Do you look at existing software and think "I
could do better than that", but you never do it? Do you have a dream
business plan like:
1 - Write killer app
2 - ?
3 - Profit!
but you're stuck at step 1?
Could you build The Great Application, if you could only find the time?
You can do it! Come join us at The Night Shift.
The Night Shift is a new group for incorrigible coders, who want to
find time to work on their dream apps, but need a bit of support. The
idea is that we get a bunch of programmers to show up with their own
machines, and everyone works on whatever they want to work on, with
other like-minded crazy people.
We provide:
- Tables and chairs (and lifesupport features such as light and oxygen)
- Powerpoints
- Network with internet (wireless connectivity prefered, there'll also
be some free ports on a wired hub).
- Tea+Coffee+Pizza
You provide:
- your own machine (notebook, or haul in a desktop if you want to)
- your own development tools
The plan is to possibly hold these coding nights once a month (1st
Friday of the month), based on the success of this very first one. The
start and end times are a minimum and maximum - feel free to show up
late and/or leave early.
We think if people show up regularly to The Night Shift, it'll provide
just enough structure to get working on personal projects that would
otherwise never really get started. Hopefully it'll inspire us all to
find extra time in our lives outside of the group to get stuck into
coding, but if not, at least it'll provide a minimum of focused time,
a bit of interaction with collegues, some exposure to new ideas and
technologies, and some pizza (mmm pizza).
