Build error...

Would appreciate someone telling me what this error means...a typical 'newbie' question !

 

$ make -f Makefile
[Exporting PDFLaTeX]
LyXTextClassList::Read: no textclasses found!

Off the top of my head that looks like maybe LyX hasn't been configured or possibly you don't have a complete LaTeX setup. You shouldn't have to make the PDF, since I keep an up-to-date copy of it up at:

http://the-lift-book.googlegroups.com/web/master.pdf

But if you want to build it, try just creating a new document in LyX first and seeing if you can export to pdflatex with just that.

By the way, the replacement of the blanks by '_'s solved that problem. Thanks. I ended with an error of 'configuration file, languages' not being found; it turned out 'langauges' in the lyx 'system' directory didn't have read permission even! I set that right.

 

Then, the next make gave me what I have said in the forwarded mail below...

I got the build going. Though with very many prompts where I had to just press RETURN for the build to complete. Some .sty files not being found and many options in some files being 'unknown' ones. I'll wait for another day to figure out/set right all those.

 

I could open the built pdf.

 

I will not speculate on how it might have happened, the build errors, I mean...suffice to say I had to reinstall cygwin...

 

Derek, thanks for renaming the files with the spaces in their names.

As you said, will use the master.pdf on the lift-book group.

No worries. Generally a bunch of prompts during the pdflatex run means pdflatex is unhappy about something. We do use some optional styles (like listings, etc), so I wonder if cygwin has some extra latex packages that you might need to install.
