Hello,
On a very feeble attempt at what passing estate agents refer to as de-cluttering, I rediscovered Philip Boxer's commentary on 'Freud's Project and topologising organisations'. In 1995, when it was written, I was a member of GOWG (Groups and Organisations Working Group) where these discussions were taking place.
Reasons for commending:
1) The explanation of the relation between function and structure and the relation to a subject's being
2) A development of Freud's fundamental psychoanalytical model which was almost directly antithetical to the passive hydraulic model so often attributed to him.
3) A description of the basic schema of the Project.
4) A way of topologising the project is offered (I suspect the reference to Lacan's Savoir is to Science and Truth but welcome further clarification)
These points are directly related to Jacques Lacan's developments within Seminar VII and are being explored in the 'Reading Seminar VII Group' Our next meeting is on Saturday 20th April, between 10.30am and 12.30, in Room 102, First Floor, Senate House, University of London, Malet Street, London, WC1E 7HU. All are welcome - there is no charge.
They also raise questions about how an organisation or group based within subjectivity operates……
