Subject: How I use THL~
Comments to this post will NOT enter you into the contest; only emails
sent to cont...@potionfactory.com that contain descriptions of how you
use The Hit List will. But if you love THL, want to improve THL, maybe
we can have a discussion about how we use THL here. Hope it can help
Andy~

How is the way that we use THL?
Which area we use for(works/home/study/..etc)?
How is THL fit in our needs?
Any feature request? Why do you need it?
Other reason we love THL instead of omnifocus/things/etc...

How I use The Hit List
1. combine the keyword in the title : @email the /property related/
application form to /mammy to tell her to sign for /sister

2. Sort Tag bundle by
a. Contact(family/agents/shop/friends/workmate/tenant)
b. action-base(@fax/@phone call/@email/@sign a document/@download)
c. object-base (computer/statement/receipts/books/dvd/games/property)
d. place-base(school/office/home)
e. event-base(open day/ wedding/annual dinner/exhibition)

3. enter the start date/due date if needed

4. build 2 smart folders :
a. No date : Start is not set, Due is not set
( to check anything i can do right now which are out of "today" and
"upcoming"
b. All : Lists or Folder is Inbox, Lists or Folder is not Inbox
( for searching some tasks that i don't switch between a lot of lists)

And use it for
01. download e-statement and attach to the Bento 2 (credit card/water
bills/electric bills/cell phone/hong kong government rent/...etc),
02. credit card payment,
03. daughter's reading progress(what chapter, finishing date)
04. reminding my mother to contact lawyer/accountant/property agent/
doctor
05. health care/body check(repeat yearly)
06. cancel some insurance option, inflation protector option
endorsement (every 2 years)
07. shopping list
08. collect rent
09. keep contact architect of every step to build my house
10. who owe my books/games/dvd
11. start date of any event
12. check list of my daughter's school bag
13. topic for discussion in my weekly family conference

The reason I love THL
1. easy tagging
2. tags page
3. upcoming instead of next action in things
4. flexible smart folder that I can have the smart folders below
    a. No date : Start is not set, Due is not set
    b. All : Lists or Folder is Inbox, Lists or Folder is not Inbox
5. keyboard manic

Feature request
1. make "no date" into default list
When I finished "Today" and find nothing to do in "Upcoming", my next
action is going to see any tasks can be done now which is no start
date/due date and scatter into different lists. "No Date" list
simplify the work of switching list by list. Yes, we can have a smart
list like this, but not everyone know how to set it.  At least the
stupid like me not. I am still a mac newbie, have been a mac user
since Feb. THL is my first GTD app. I had no experience on how to set
a smart folder that time. Switching between lists all the day in the
first 2 months.
I think "No Date" list will be great/user-friendly for anyone like me,
don't know what's GTD and don't know how to set the smart folder.

2. make "all" into default list
because I input every little thing into THL. Including the repeating
task, THL is always showing more than 100 tasks in my dock everyday.
But sometime I forget to tag, sometime put them into wrong lists and i
have a lot of list. Stupid me don't know how to search something which
is not in "List A" when I am viewing "List A". So I need a simple list
include every task from all list to check if anything I missed.

3. an option to search from current list or all list
the reason was mentioned in the above request

4. Import/Export OPML
I used to use mindmap(MindNode/NovaMind) for brainstorming. When
brainstorming is finished, I will input those action into THL(for
personal simple project) or export to a project management software
(for my company's need). It's easy import the mindmap from NovaMind to
Merlin 2. But to input into THL, it's a bit heavy. There are many
project mangers would like to see this feature~~~

I love THL because
1. I can complement tag into the title like this:
@email the /property related/ application form to /mammy to tell her
to sign for /sister
that the task is
a. easy understanding,
b. not easy to miss tag(better management)
c. save time(no need to type the same words again)

2. simple, intuition
I don't know how's GTD theory, i just want a software to help me check
my stuffs. after i got THL from macheist, i found it's great but no
iphone app. Then I tried things, but it made me so confuse, in the
"next" page i see the things included in today however the inbox is
not included. I am not good at english, I really don't know how to
find a solution to solve that. And i back to THL again, I love the
flexibility of its smart folder.
And later on I met omnifocus and it has a iphone app. So i gave it a
try. But it doesn't show task more than 2 weeks in upcoming, no multi-
tags (maybe i just didn't find how to use them). I back to THL again,

Now I print the "today" everyday. It waste my papers, but THL is still
my best GTD software
