This new application may be relevant for academics because it uses PDF
to save and open.

It emphasizes typography but currently does not do footnotes. Have not
brought is and I have no connection with the company. It may be worth
a glance if you prefer and elegant application.

Yes, I thought it looks rather attractive. I've been trying to come up
with an excuse to buy it, but as an owner of Pages 09, Mellel, and
Nisus Express licenses, I don't think I can really justify it, even at
the discounted price of $39.95. Perhaps if it comes out as part of an
ultra-inexpensive bundle I might give it a go.
