pre-production

• tech: we're always looking to have at least one DSLR shooting, so photogs need to coordinate prior to the show
• collab w/ filmmakers & band: this is a collaborative experience, so we strongly suggest that photogs communicate with the entire media team & bands prior to the show. setting up a physical meeting is preferred, but basecamp communication can suffice
  

the shoot

• style: there are a number of types of shots we want per show (description/examples in parenthesis)
  
• closeup face (expressions)
• closeup instruments (action)
• drastic angles (up at guitarist, singer)
• band live (full action)
• band poses (before/after show)
• band head shots (before/after show)
• static instruments (secondary guitar at rest)
• venue details 
• dmp people at work (danny at the sound board)
• audience (excited faces)
• anything else that would document the experience of the night
• numbers: if you're shooting digital, shoot as many as possible -- don't be afraid of bad shots
• positioning: realize when filmmakers are shooting, so you can avoid being in the shot. other than that, as long as you're not literally interfering with a musician playing, feel free to get that perfect shooting spot
  

post-production

uploading photos

• domains

• no need to add tags, description or title (sean will do that)
• email sean the site he should link to for attribution
  
• last.fm (go to the picture area on the band page)
• facebook (if you're an admin, please add the photos to the proper show album)
• original size: please upload the largest version of your images
• attribution: please DO NOT add your name to the actual image
• on flickr: on the official DMP account, all shots have a creative commons, non-commercial license with attribution info in the description
• on last.fm or facebook: add your name/link in the description area of each photo
• tagging: for domains with tagging, please follow these guidelines for each photo:
• always use these tags:
• [month][day]show (may22show) 
• venue name ("the green burro")
• Greensboro
• "live music"
• music
• "the dotmatrix project"
• music genre (americana, hip hop, etc.) 
• use these tags as applicable: 
• band name
• band member name(s) -- check out myspace pages for member names

we're working on setting up a quarterly photo exhibit at one or more downtown venues, showcasing a number of the best shots from all the photographers participating over the previous 3 shows. more news to come soon.
