dotmatrixproject.com redesign: phase one

i'm looking for feedback, so if you have a minute please checkout the
wireframe here:

it's a wire, not a final mockup, so don't sweat the visual nature of
it. check out what information is being presented and how.

in the short-term, i want to do three things:

1) present rotating music videos and show media front and center
2) present upcoming dmp events front and center
3) bubble up latest blog posts (for any of you who are still
interested in posting about local music)

the "events near greensboro" area won't become active until a pretty
intense phase two is completed. i'd like to turn dmp online into a
local hub for all music / arts events local to the triad. and creating
an event here will fire off event details to local rags like yes!
weekly and gotriad, maybe even radio stations and potentially, auto-
create events on platforms like facebook and myspace... but that'll
take a real platform design. so pretend that area isn't there for now.

any feedback? layout, info, feature ideas all welcome.

I like the wireframe. All the essential stuff is there and frankly if
you just made this the design that's not so bad either! Congrats to all
of you in gboro continuing to do such good work.

I think it's great. My only suggestion would be that you have a sticky
paragraph at the very top to says specifically what your core product
is: a free live show with two bands the last Thursday of every month.
You might add in that it's more fun than your usual bar gigs because
there's a bunch of shooters making it an event. AND you can download
the show later.

Follow that with the schedule for DMP...THEN go into the other
Greensboro stuff.

I realize it's all important in blogging, but you might be missing an
opportunity to pitch your main event that a lot of people still don't
understand and the focus should be on the consumer, rather than the
bands and photographers.

Thanks for doing all this! It's a real asset for the community and I've
gotten good feedback about our participation from people all over the
country.

i'll see what i can whip up. i'm not a huge fan of descriptive copy for a web service since the features pretty much sum up the local focus on music and the "consumers" will be chowing on the events and media directly in front of them... that said, i'll definitely be including copy to that extent at the bottom of the page and on an about page. we'll see... good feedback.

sorry if i'm late on this, but i like it... i particularly like the idea of the blogs on the main page... i think that's something that will really add to the DMP page, and really help make it more community minded...

We're playing at the Millenium Center in Winston-Salem next Thursday (Feb 12th) with Larry Keel & Natural Bridge. We're really excited about this, and would love to see all of our dotmatrix friends out that night.

If you guys haven't heard Larry Keel, he is an AMAZING bluegrass artist. You can stream his songs over at his myspace page (myspace.com/larrykeel). He has an ilike page also, but it's not quite as up to date.
 
The doors open at 8, and the show starts at 9. It's an all ages show. Tickets are $10 in advance, and $12 on the day of the show. You can buy 'em online at etix.com. I'll be selling some tickets myself so if you want, you can get up with me (via myspace, facebook, or my cell 828-226-7131). The advantage to buying the tickets from me is that you can bypass the etix convenience charge.
