go triad did a piece on the project today:

http://www.gotriad.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080626/GTCOM01/341988686/-1/GTCOM01

big thanks to chris jackson for making that happen.

i'm a bit pissed they used a beach shot of me and molly -- making the article about us -- and not one of the killer band shots i gave them. i contacted the editor ask politely asked them to swap it out online. we'll see. unfortunately, they did the same in print, but even bigger. i don't know what they were thinking.

hope to see you all out tonight.

and bring friends. we like them.

A friend of mine wrote this and I totally agree...

"i love the first two paragraphs:

A culture of local, original musicians exists in Greensboro that has remained largely underground.

Local artists, photographers and filmmakers are also
waiting to burst through and reach a wider audience in their own hometown
.

Ummm, isn't this what local press is for?  to expose local artists and bands and aid in getting their name out there?"

It's so true though. He's currently trying to get our CD reviewed in some local press and he said it's tough to get people to even notice or care. Go Triad has reduced their music page and reviews page. I think this town will always be left sitting on the couch unless we hire peeps like Kathy to make waves and bump people from time to time.

hot photo, sean!  can't understand why you don't want the world to see it!

the article is a nice boon.

i used to write for blow triad....i think you know that.  the editor got tired of me arguing with her every time she changed my words.  i wasn't a "good fit" she told me.  but i really loved being able to do what alexa milan did  - i loved providing exposure to artists and other interesting people doing interesting things.  i miss it.  dammit.  but carla kucinsky sucks.  i do not miss her.

i'll see you tonight.

the local, traditional press is necessary to hit the masses of khakis in this town that still read the n&r and watch the late night news, but we can't fix their agenda. i'm a much bigger proponent of taking our community's future into our own hands. spots like yes! weekly and wqfs fit somewhere outside the old guard and the people there "get it" so maybe we can build more explicit ways of getting info out to those folks...

so, i'm grateful for the article, but i want to build something online that we can all swarm and use to expose what's fresh about the gso area -- beyond our monthly shindig.

more than a 'zine, more than a social network, kind of an event service... i'm still thinking on it.

anyone interested in brainstorming, i'm going to have a bbq in august to do just that... and eat cooked meat with drinkage. i'll send out invites once i figure out how to build my gas grill.

yes, the local press should be focusing on local people and events.  it's nice when they throw us a bone every once in a while.  but like sean says, there is probably a way to circulate information in a way that is fresh and effective.  we must think on this and break new ground, i think.

thanks for the props, andrew.  i am for hire. (and talk to me about getting your cd noticed.  i may be able to help.)

looking forward to seeing folks tonight!

I'm all about grilled meat and beverages and exposure.

That would be a good tag line for a blog. Hmmmm....

the article has been updated with a rad shot of SAD with attribution
to stephen:

http://www.gotriad.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080626/GTCOM01/341988686/-1/GTCOM01

but no link to stephen's image, mention of the band name, the show
they played or a link to the flickr images.

at least they got the name of the project right!

sigh.

just got this notice from carla, the editor at go triad:

Sean, Louis says that our system isn’t built for linking names in
bylines of photos. So he’s taking down the photo and replacing it with
a Citified photo that I have.

Sincerely,
Carla

well, it's cool that we can promote one of the upcoming bands, but
it's ridiculous that go triad says they can't add an <a href> tag to
online copy and expose the work of the photographers on the project.

i had better never see a flickr image of any sort on there or i will
blog about it and stamp my feet... really hard.

there's no way we can rely on these people to expose local talent to
the degree it needs to in this age.
