The Barn Kids cast of "Disney's The Aristocats KIDS," which closed Thursday evening after three spectacular sold out performances, voted to forego their traditional cast "goodie bags" and instead collected the cash value and donated it to Kansas City's Wayside Waifs after the show's final performance, in a totally kid-driven plan.
The cast donated $80.00 and a cat-toy to Wayside Waifs, and Marie Dispenza from Wayside Waifs (left) was on hand to accept the donation from Devynn Snider (right), who played "Scat Cat" in the production.
Wayside Waifs helped kick off the Barn Kids production by bringing their big mobile pet adoption van to the theatre with a number of "Aristo-kittens" on board for adoption. Barn Kids cast members, in "Kitty" make-up, added to the highly successful two-hour adoption event.
KCMO-94.9-FM's "Cool Cat" station mascot was on hand and Runza of Mission offered their famous chip chocolate cookies and food coupons to all.
The mother of one of the Aristocat cast members, Cindy Raedle, sent a note to Vida Bikales, President of the Barn Players Board of Directors and Jason Coats, Education Director of the Barn Players and the director of Aristocats, saying: "Gretchen had tears streaming down her face on the way home because she was so sad it was over. Of all the theatre productions she has done Barn Kids is her favorite. Thank you for the time you gave to all these kids."
