to The Amp Guide
Hello...
I know where one is with a serial number less than 50. The date codes
match an amp built sometime in March 1948, but the Jensen speaker
transformer bolted to the original Alnico speaker says 220750 -
Christmas week 1947.
I have to admit this amp looks nothing like yours. For instance, this
amp never had the leather handle like yours, but a large metal Stanley
workbench handle was original equipment. How do I know? When the
handle is unbolted, there is only the marks matching the metal handle,
and no marks in the top of the amp for the screw holes or center pin
the stock leather handle's mounting brackets would have. This amp has
a skinny wood top access panel that barely covers the chassis, not the
large one Miss August has. Also, this amp has never been tweed
covered. I know because the original Fender rectangular logo has never
been pried off the amp and there is no tweed material left under it.
Instead, the entire amp including the back panels is covered in what
probably was once clear varnish but now has aged to a light peanut
butter color. The original Jensen Concert Series alnico speaker is in
the amp too, with the date code 220812.
What's it sound like? Not a lot of high treble, but clean as country
water up to about 3. After that, it doesn't get much louder but
compresses more and more.
