Do you have any suggestions, then, as to why it might not appear to be in the registry at any of its normal locations? Did you install it as a different user and just for that user? Did you install Cygwin 1.5 or 1.7? Are you using x86_64 Windows or regular x86 Windows?

I got it this time .. i just uninstalled and reinstalled Cygwin ... ( 1.5.25-15 ) .. i probably must have mixed up with the user thing.. this time i did it as admin and it went on smoothly .. without any problems ... i use x86 windows xp professional ( SP2 ) on a 512mb ram and 1.8Ghz mercury motherboard ( P4 ).

Thanks for all the help that I got ... I am very happy that the response was good and I will give feed back and also test once my exams are over by the end of this month.
