Friends...I have put below an initial copy of the message which I think we can send to the Telugu groups. I plan to send it to the important Telugu groups online. Please give your suggestions..add more content, or edit it. Once we finalize I will send it.
Kiran, I have put your email id for contact. Please tell me if it is ok, or if you want to remove/change it. We can probably have 2-3 coordinators in Hyderabad, and put their email ids / ph. no. as contacts.
regards Kiran V.

Hi Friends
It is indeed exciting that the proposal to start a Telugu Computing Movement, which aims to rapidly popularize computing in Telugu, encourage usage of Telugu software and take it to the masses, and envisions to propagate Telugu language and culture, has met with an enthusiastic response from various quarters. Some of this infectious enthusiasm can be gauged from the discussion in these threads in the Teluguwiki and the Telugublog communities.
Software, India...the two words have become synonymous in recent times. So have Software, AP...as Andhraites form majority of the Indian software professionals worldwide. But unfortunately, we seem to have focussed on personal gain, without giving any importance to our sweet mother tongue.
TELUGU, the largest spoken Dravidian language, the second most spoken Indian language, the language of Carnatic music, the one referred to as as the 'sweetest' by many great men in history surely deserves better.
Telugu computing initiatives are already taking place, led by many enthusiastic people. Some of these are:
All of them are working individually, and are presently scattered. And the hardwork of the members in these projects has not yet percolated down to the common end user.
Q. How many of you know that now it is quite easy to send mails to your near n dear ones in Yahoo/Gmail in Telugu unicode script?(no! it is not the slow, agonizing script you see in rediffmail)
Q. How many of you are aware that you can now convert Telugu written in Roman script to Telugu script by just highlighting and right-clicking your mouse?
Q. Or that you can view Eenadu or Andhra Jyothy online editions in your secure Firefox browser?
Q. Do you know about the exciting Telugu blogs springing up daily on the Internet?
And if you can't answer the above questions in the affirmative, you are probably not aware about the elegant software called Padma which is the common entity for the above. These are just the tip of the iceberg, about what has and can be achieved in Telugu computing in the future.
And taking these technologies and solutions to the masses, will be the aim of TSF / Telugu Software Foundation (this is just a name I'm using for the time being, we would prefer a Telugu name finally). TSF WILL BE A NON-PROFIT ASSOCIATION / MOVEMENT IN WHICH ANYONE CAN TAKE PART FOR FREE. It aims to bring together all the Telugu computing initiatives under one umbrella, thus enabling greater interaction among the various project members, sharing of knowledge, and also provide one common source for information about various Telugu softwares to the end user. The groups will still remain independent and free to pursue their work. There will be NO centralized authority. TSF WILL NOT CONTROL THE PROJECTS BEING DONE BY THE GROUPS. It will just provide a common platform for interaction, and a medium to let the people know more about their software.
One can also have a look at 'Kani Tamizh' to get an understanding of what the Telugu association might like to do. http://www.kanithamizh.in/objective.htm We plan to develop our Telugu Software Foundation on a much bigger magnitude, and also aim to interact at the political level with the Andhra Pradesh and Indian Govt.s. Software. Political support will go a long way in taking Telugu computing to the masses. The Telugu organizations around the world can also provide great help.
We also hope to start a website soon. The website will be the main interface to the outside world, and through which everyone can know more about the movement, it's activities, and can contact the members.
Hyderabad Meet - Starting with our journey
The surge of activity in Teluguwiki and Telugublog groups indicates that we are soon heading for our very first meet in Hyderabad, within the next 2-3 weeks . Though it will be a simple informal gathering, this first meeting will be a very special one. Till now our interaction has been mainly in cyberspace. Members can now get to meet in person, synergize, and discuss the future action plan. I urge all of you who are in Hyderabad and interested in being a part of this movement, to try to make it to this event. It will also serve as a way to let the world know about the birth of the Telugu Computing Movement, by inviting the media, and if possible political personalities. I also request those of you who have media and political contacts, to pass on this message to them. In the future, we would like to have organizations like Telugu Bhasha Samakhya, individuals like Tanikella Bharani garu (film actor), Chukka Ramaiah garu (IIT training) and many more movie and political personalities to support us in spreading the message of 'Telugudanam' in the world.
Please contact Kiran Kumar Chava garu (chavaki...@gmail.com) if you would like to take part in Hyderabad meet, know more details, or have further suggestions. I would also post the date, time and venue when it is decided. Of course, if you know the details, you are always welcome to come in..there is no formal informing to be done before. Kiran is the moderator of the Telugublog and Teluguwiki groups, and also maintains the Telugu Bloggers' list. He was also one of the judges for the IndiBloggers awards, and is a die-hard supporter of increasing usage of Telugu Unicode on the net.
Starting with Hyderabad, the movement is envisioned to spread to other cities, and countries.
USA Chapter
USA will be one of the 'high-focus' countries for the movement. Telugus have come to dominate many spheres among Indian American life, especially the software industry. We have many regional Telugu associations all over North America.
I am presently in the South Bay Area, and am willing to help coordinate the activites here. I came here just a few months ago from the east coast, and do hope to take active part in organizations like SiliconAndhra & BATA in the future. I would request enthusiastic members from Bay Area and all over USA to come forward and help strengthen this unique initiative in America. We can start with organizing similar meets, discussing our strategies through forums, gatherings, and even contribute our software skills for Telugu software development. I am sure there are many intelligent coders out there, and if even a fraction of them take part, we can make our mother tongue catch up and fully adapt itself to today's technology-oriented world.
If you would like to contact me personally, please email me at ki...@telugutanam.com [ kiran (at) telugutanam (dot) com ]. I will never miss out your emails in that id.
Please forward this to all your Telugu friends, relatives. We are looking forward for your views, suggestions, criticisms...
TELUGU...from palm manuscripts of ancient times...to palm OSes, laptops of today...that is our aim. Come, let us join hands..and achieve it.

1. can we also include hotmail with gmail/yahoo mail for Telugu mailing? 2. Can we also put Linux for eenaadu/jyothy reading? 3. can we add images? one or two very small - as there are lot of people who just ignores long mails, but reads them if the image is interesting! 4. please, please, please remove garu after Kiran Kumar Chava :) 5. Can we also include about chatting in Telugu with msn messenger, yahoo messenger, google talk? 6. Better to mention that "Making Telugu websites is like cake walk and no longer need to worry about fonts, buying, dynamic fonts etc... and Just Like you make an English Website you can make a Telugu website" 7. Personally I would like to rephrase the "secure firefox browser" wording; may be "firefox also " etc...; --> Going forward if we are going to be this much official we need to neutral in all respectives, particularly for the people like me to take admin role. 8. I am honoured, worried about the responsibility of Hyderabad meet. But I promise to work towards making it a success.

Oh Tht's a great break through by Mr. Kiran, tht's a great mail, My only Doubt is can't we create a webpage stating all these things and
also abt the future intentions, and also a small Mail system, through which all the members can be informed abt the future meets. I'm sayin this becoz every one wuldn't access all the links given I guess , so creating a simple webpage would make an additional help even, we can create tht as a blog even or a wepage at Geocities or Tripod

Thanks for the suggestions! I will add Linux, also, for viewing Eenadu, Andhra Jyothy, and also remove 'secure' and just call it 'firefox browser'. I agree that we should be neutral. Yes, putting images would be a great idea...it will sustain the interest of the reader, and also give him some overview of what is possible in Telugu computing now. Kiran, I am also thinking of including the link to your blog article on Telugu usage on Internet, which you wrote many months ago. In addition, I am thinking of selecting some from these images:
Will also add Hotmail in addition to Yahoo, Gmail. Might also mention some blog addresses, Telugu sites.
Since the meet might be still a few weeks away, I will put together a webpage, with this message, and pictures, in a proper fashion. Then the link can also be forwarded much more easily in addition to the message itself. Also, a good Telugu name for this would be nice.
I wrote the message in a formal way, so that people will take it seriously, and give importance. In all probability, the first Hyderabad gathering will be friendly and informal. Whenever the gathering is, I feel we should formally announce at least something (either the starting of the association , or having achieved something, or starting website etc. ) on Ugadi day which is on 30th March'06. Even if we are still less members by then, it is ok..we will go ahead and announce it. The fact that this initiative was started on Telugu New Year's day will remain forever, and would be a good thing to mention. By then, we can give enough publicity to this 'birth' of Telugu Computing Movement, and further publicity after Ugadi.
