I found (in Vizag) that Visalaandhra Book House is selling 12 volumes of Kasee Majilee Kathalu in about 6 books, all costing about Rs.750 and odd.

Those who are interested may order. If you know of this already this mail may kindly be ignored.

Best wishes

Yeah! but would you believe I would be so stupid to give the middle
book to a relative (who since, had departed to never never lands.)I
think more of the missing book and worry wondering where the poor
thing is, and lose sleep over it.

Mind you, i am not telling you a kaasi majili story. Strange souls
worry about strange things.

There is this still living soul -Julian Barnes who apparently
unleashed a book called " Nothing to be frightened of." Soon as i
read the intro, I knew this is the book i should have written and i
could have written, but did not. Rbites, browse about this book in
the week end NY times and choose to read or not read. Garrison
keillor seems to like it. G.K., for your info is surreptitiously
featured in one of 'Nisi Shamal' stories.

Now, Hemantha, you will ofcourse ask me who the hell, 'Nisi Shamal'
is and I in my great benevelance forgive you, my friend. For mystery
fans, right now rumor goes, she is playing detective and is roaming
Rome, trying to solve an age old mystery.:-)

Regards
lyla

:-) When I first read your write up... my processor read "Julian Barnes" and
understood it as "Jules Verne" - the author of good sci-fic in classic
days... So read and re-read the paragraph again to get the point.... :-)

Is she really? Poor me! I have been thinking that I will go to the US
this month to see her.

With best wishes

Unfair, Unfair. You are telling me now Lyla. Had you told me a month ago, I probably would have tried to meet "Nisi Shamal" in Italy. And what a legitimate excuse I would have had to go to Rome.:-))
?
Best wishes and Seasons Greetings to all RBs

Dear Dr. Murthy:

I believe you have attended the Detroit Literary Meet. Prof. Velcheru
Naryana Rao was talking about publishing as a profit-making enterprise, a la
Western World. ( May be, like it is in the US of A). He was emphasizing that
as long as self-publishing ( without editorial review) exists, we would not
be able to get quality publications. But, that is a different issue.

One has to venture starting a dedicated Publishing Organization
with a capital investment with a view to make profit. If such an
organizations comes up ( with Telugu NRIs taking the required lead) it would
like winning half the battle. Next, this organization should not skimp in
paying a decent remuneration to a qualified and learned editors (
పరిష్కర్తలు) to handle the task you have addressed in re: కాశీమజిలీ
కథలు, and the like!

Why mince words?

"ఎవరైనా ఈ కధలను ఒపిగ్గా ఇప్పటి వాదుక తెలుగులో రాశి ప్రచురించితే
బావుంటుంది," అని మీరు మొదలెట్టడం ఏం బాగుంది చెప్పండి?

There are very qualified editors who can handle the job as పర్ష్కర్తలు.
One has to pay them decently. To print books with fewest typos, one must
hire educated people as proof-readers and pay them decent wages. The only
drawback I see is the will and a concerted effort (certainly not the
wherewithal) to launch a Publishing House with a reasonable capital outlay
to undertake such an activity. Once, good books come out from this
enterprise, public will support it by buying those books. Please don't give
me the cop-out stock answer, " Telugu people don't buy books."

SriSri wrote somewhere about producing good and decent Telugu movies. He
wrote something like this. I am only paraphrasing it from my 'recovered
memory.'

' They say that our Telugu people don't have a taste to watch class
movies. And, hence producing them will be a waste. What a cop-out? It is
like saying that our people enjoy the taste of pakODIlu made with smelly
rotten oil. They would not buy well-made tasty pakoDIlu, with fresh oil.
That is nonsense!'

I believe that if books are produced well, people would buy it. It is a
matter of nurturing good taste!

Off my sopbox.

Regards, --- Veluri Venkateswara Rao
