Alright, boys and gals!
If you are in a mood to see a knee-slapping, jumping up and down in your
seat, falling forward with laughter kind of movie, go see అష్టా చెమ్మా
immediately. You are advised to check thoughtfulness and seriousness at the
door. Don't even think of going to this movie if you want your movies to
give you a message or have a social conscience. Also, don't go to this movie
or interact with anybody that has seen the movie, if your name is
రాంబాబు ; you may not be laughing with the rest. It's a different story
if your name is mahEsh.

ఇంద్రగంటి మోహనకృష్ణ who debuted with the wonderful గ్రహణం , the
cinematization of చలం's దోషగుణం and followed it up with the
comedy, మాయాబజార్ which unfortunately did not come close to the
expectations raised by that title, now wrote and directed this farce that
stakes a claim for a place among the best Telugu comedy movies ever. This
movie in its zaniness reminded me of the evergreen ప్రేమించి చూడు ,
which thanks to Dish networks' tEja channel, I get the opportunity to watch
freqeuntly. I was even tempted to compare it to the original మిస్సమ్మ ,
but that would be stretching things a bit too far.

Of course, every artist in the movie, with the only exception of తనికెళ్ళ
భరణి delivers an over-the-top performance. But, it is the kind of "we
know it is over-the-top; we actually want this to be way over-the-top so
that you know we are not taking this seriously at all" performance that had
the audience roaring with laughter. చొలొర్స్ స్వాతి (who was introduced to
this forum a few years ago by kannegaMTi raamaaraav during one of his 'I am
in Bangalore and I have some time to kill and let me muse aloud for RB'
posts) plays the high-strung and slightly unbalanced but definitely lovable
లావణ్య in the cutest possible ways. Newcomer నాని plays the first
lead effortlessly transitioning easily between romance and Wodehousian
nuttiness. We now have a new talented comedy hero in Sreenivaas avasaraala.
newcomer bhaargavie is OK. ఝాన్సి, హేమ , and భరణి put a lot of
energy into their supporting roles. I have a feeling that the నేను నువ్వు
కాదు scene with its మెత్తటి, వెచ్చటి, పింక్ టర్కీ టవల్ in the
climax is going to be remembered fondly for years to come.

Also a rare bonus in this film - you can actually hear the lyrics written by
సిరివెన్నెల సీతారామ శాస్త్రి without the noise, er, music playing
interference. And, I thank కల్యాణీ మాలిక్ for that huge favor.

You may be thinking that you can watch this movie on DVD when it comes to
your local video shop. Don't do that. If we want such videos in future, we
need to have these young film makers like mOhanakRshNa, krish, sEkhar
kammula and the like to make many more movies. It will happen only if their
movies make enough money at the box-office. Take your significant other (and
the equally significant or less significant others as well) to the theater
and have two hours of good, clean fun!

another movie that is a must watch (at least try your best) is A
Wednesday by Neeraj Pandey starring Naseruddin Shah and Anupam Kher.
people around say its the most powerful movie in 2008. and reading the
reviews and after watching the movie a few minutes ago, I thought I
would suggest.

Its a Hindi movie! But the theme applies to anyone Indian or otherwise.

Sincerely
Bhaskar

Dear Jampala-garu,
The movie was really worth the time. As suggested by you, I left
thoughtfulness etc outside the theater.

It was real fun, smooth, with out much noise (dishum effects) or melodrama
and unwanted tears et al.

Of late, there are many "sensible" directors joining the movie industry - so
that we can come out of the formula folds and can really see a movie for
entertainment's sake.

Regards,
Anil Kurnool

PS: Worth the currency - if you buy the CD.

I did better. Went to Vizag and in the real comfort of wonderful AC (really after the 34 odd degrees outside even in summer tanning my face to pinkish brown or the other way) in Leela Mahal and just at the cost of Rs.40 went through the movie the whole hog.

Yes, if you forget some important faculties, the movie is smooth running. the novelty is in the making which to a large extent had been refreshing. The "simham pallu" of the heroine (or maybe I should say one of the several heroines) irritated me though.

Clean fun movie, indeed!

Best wishes
