DTFM tones stopped working

Hi,
I was able to dial DTFM tones but it stopped working recently. Digits
appear in the call window but I don't hear any specific tone and
nothing happens. I checked another SIP client (Blink) with the same
account and DTFM tones work on that client, it shows that my SIP
provider is OK. I have Telephone 1.0.2 and Mac OS 10.6.8.

I also cannot get the DTMF to work as stated in the FAQ. If I call my
extension from Telephone, I don't hear DTMF when pressing number
buttons or pressing # or *.

I also don't hear any tones, but they are being generated and sent to the other end of the call. Yesterday I was using Telephone to interact with a tone-driven phone menu system and it worked perfectly. It is a little disorienting from a UI perspective not to actually hear the tones though.

I understand I will not hear the DTMF in the Telephone app, but in my case the DTMF tones are not received on the other side either.

My set up is through my provider XS4ALL.

Telephone FAQ says: RFC 2833 or SIP INFO DTMF

XS4ALL (http://www.xs4all.nl/klant/helpdesk/bellen/anders.php): 

- inband and G711,
- RFC2833 and inband for G729
- RFC2833 for g729

If I read the Telephone log correctly, it uses "8 PCMA/8000/1" as the codec, which is G711 I guess?

When I use the same XS4ALL SIP account using my Fritzbox and a regular phone, then DTMF works fine (uses G711).

Is this correct behavior?

Hi,

Yes, PCMA is g711. It doesn't look like Telephone DTMF will work with
your provider. Telephone doesn't support inband method and doesn't
support g729 codec. If the provider supported RFC2833 or SIP INFO DTMF
with g711 codec, that would work.

It seems we have a catch 22. :-(

The provider says "it is very tricky" for them to add DTMF support.

I don't have enough knowledge about the topic to judge that statement.

I have more faith in an enthusiastic developer than a provider though. :-)

Is there a way to add inband DTMF for G711 in Telephone?

I have added a Request for Enhancement for that.

Any news on DTMF scene?

For me DTMF is not working or works very bad - sometimes works and sometimes not. There is no local DTMF tone so I don't know if Telephone recognised key for DTMF. The other party has problems with recognize tomes too.
