*Mobilink Infinity - The next step in communications ***
*We have launched our broadband services in Karachi on July 1 **with the name of Mobilink **Infinity.*
* *
This is a big day in the history of Mobilink – a step into providing cutting edge broadband services for our customers and enabling the next cycle of growth and opportunities for Mobilink. In a country with 165 million people, 12 million already access the internet and only 128 thousand have access to broadband. Our aim is to make this an affordable and accessible service for the masses as we have done with GSM.
Mobilink Infinity is now a full fledged operational business within Mobilink. Mobilink Infinity will provide high speed and reliable internet connectivity along with access to a landline through VoIP.
This is a soft launch and limited to Karachi. We are giving a very special pre-launch discount to these customers (see customer invitation and pre-launch offer letters).
*We have special following introductory packages:*
Thanks Uzair. So we finally have the much awaited Mobilink Wimax with us in Karachi. Does it support voip other than that built in for Mobilink? It would be fun to see how the cellular giant tackles the net neutrality issue by allowing or denying SIP on its network. The Unlimited 1 meg bandwidth for Rs 1,200 per month is aggressively priced.
Any now only if we can know what number to call to confirm availability of service and order a unit?
Great to see Mobilink also jumping on WiMax bandwagon, it is going to really provide life line for much demanding infrastructure where PTCL's big belly bosses have decided to make life harder for EU. What are Mobilinks plans to expand the service?

Great going ! However just curious to know that after paying 6,000
discounted CPE price will it become the customers property or still
remains the Mobilink property?. Secondly is this service for the whole
Karachi or limited areas . Unlimited downloading is really great and
mobilink to mobilink free calls is another VAS . However initial funds
seem to be quite fatty ; it could be like splitting initial 6,000 into
3 months rentals. My last query is will this service be available from
the customer service centers or franchises as well.
Good luck !

Voice is Free for Infinity to GSM and GSM to infinity in the launch offer till specified period. Both options available for wified and non wi fied cpes at the moment ..... as the interface out is ethernet you can connect your own distribution device. Major towns in karachi are covered with Outdoor + indoor coverage. last quarter 08 95% plus indoor coverage with Wave 2 and MIMO is planned.

Wow! 1Mbps in 1200 bucks and wifi-enabled CPEs are the real attraction. I wish I could've waited bit more by not buying a wifi router for my home use few weeks ago.
Btw, the CPE-ownership issue is indigestible - why pay non-refundable 6K when i will have to return it at the termination of service? This is the same questions that I fired on wateen guys as well.

CPE ownership will be of customer , this cpe is already subsidized by operator as you can very well understand that NO CPE (with proper IOT etc ) is available in the market for 100 USD for wimax ( so 6000 is very attractive ). However user might be required to sign a subscription period etc ...

What is this? They are giving limited time discounted offer when service is only in Karachi. What about others? Will they pay 16000 when their turn comes.

Another point that I think needs to be raised is that the bandwidth is going be "Shared" and when I asked the customer service banda about it, he replied, "It depends upon the situation" .. no clue what that meant what so ever .. he also said that you will be sharing ur bandwith with at least 2 ppl .. this factor will definately play an important role in the overall quality of service ..

I used the Mobilink service in the testing phase, but it was limited to 128kbps, so did not use it much, except to establish, that unlike Wateen it actually works.
The Wateen Wimax however was lightening fast in it's trial period - syuper low latency. The Mobilink Wimax was fast, but similar to how 128kbps regular dsl or cable works.
But compared to a 1 mbps (now 2mbps) maxcom DSL line it was just too slow to use.

I have always seen Telecom as one of the main liberalizer for our country, if we did not have internet and cheap telecom, we would be even further more back in the last century.
That is why I was shouting so much about the raise in price on the APC price hike.
Telecom are the new freeway's of the world, and with petrol price going to 200$ a barrel, we should use telecommuting as much as we can, as that will probabbly be the way for going to work in the not very far future.
Let us all try to keep the prices as much down as we can, and keep the competetion alive and healthy and strong, as that is what will drive the prices down and quality up.
Thank you to Orascom, Warid Group and Etisalat for investing in Pakistan and we welcome others also to come to Pakistan, Make a LOT of money and in return give our country the liberty that it diserved a long time a go.

At that time, there was no need, but today, PTA has created a market place in Pakistan to create an enterprenuer in every single house hold.
cost is 1 cent, selling price is 10 cent, per min,
Do illegal voice for 7 cent a min with 6 cent profit a min, multiply it with only 6 hrs a day that is 360 mins a day, that is 21$ a day or 648$ a month profit from one device.

The stop gap measure to formal launch is there to get these catches aside and hit a straight 6er in the market. I'm not sure but this might be to avoid the conventional journey of mobilink to maybelink and bring a refined product into the market later by picking up details from the proving ground. I like the name Infinity so good marketing paraphernalia there instead of just calling mobilink wimax, basically guaranteeing the consumer recall from this move. Now the wimax machinery perspective, its far from the stage to put remarks on Mobilink vs. Wateen performance. Let's wait and see the consumer tolerance level for this product to take the roll.
This organized launch by having a complete roadmap and phases for WiMAX in Pakistan certainly deserves a pat on the back for Mobilink WiMAX team out there.
Great Going!

Huawei to deploy WiMAX network for Mobilink in Pakistan
Thursday 3 July 2008 | 10:03 AM CET
Chinese telecommunications firm Huawei Technologies has been selected by Pakistani mobile operator Mobilink to deploy a commercial WiMAX 16e network. The network will cover central business districts and hot spots in Pakistan's six major cities of Islamabad, Karachi, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Lahore and Rawalpindi. Under the terms of the contract, Huawei will provide Mobilink with a WiMAX system including distributed base stations, an access service network-gateway and a network management system. Huawei's mobile WiMAX systems combine 4G technologies with multi-modal platforms to provide Mobilink with high-quality network coverage. It integrates Mobilink's existing 2G networks with high-bandwidth capacity networks. Huawei's WiMAX system is expected to help Mobilink to meet Pakistan's increasing broadband needs.
