Hi All

Just heard the news on television that one of our provincial minister (I think of Punjab) said that "mobiles should not used by all.....its use should be restricted. Mobiles are being used by terrorists and effecting social moral values. If he had the power...he would have restricted the selling of mobiles to common people."
I am just wondering that if such people become our policy makers.....what would be the future of telecom industry?

These people still do not understand that technology may have mis-uses. But it never means that it should be taken back from the common man. Similar is the case of ban on LNO. In my view these LNO packages are products of the telecom operator and should not be banned. I have done a detailed post on the same at TelecomPk.

NO NO, not all users.

The policy has been made & approved by Punjab Assembly for Late night packages, which is attributed to comments by members that SPECIALLY Students & SINGLEs are stuck on cell phone late night and their efficiency @ schools and work is seriously damaged.

I support that BAN on Late night package.

Why so far neither of Cell companies have come up with a BRILLIANT IDEA for increasing individuals performance at school at work etc etc.

I hope the policy was made based on actual statistics, not opinions.

I don't know about the work efficecy being damaged but some pros include majority of individuals to lead to a polished communication. When you talk to a female, the 'has been and had been' terminology needs to be in order.

See theoratically this guy is correct, you cannot counter his statement unless you come up with 3 good uses of a late night offer. When you are countering someone one needs to have his side of the homework done, no matter how wrong he is, he will always have a logical win over you. If he was sitting in front of you debating this subject, no matter how guru you are of telecom sector with number of years of experience, he won't let you talk for a bit since his statements are backed by reasoning and ours are backed by words. This forum is of expereinced telecom professional and 100% more knowledgble than that Minister, but have we been able to come up with reasoning to keep these packages running?  Whether he is right or wrong or just trying to get into an attention seeking rant is a different animal altogether.

You first need to answer his questions! What answer do you have to spoiling social moral values? Aren't they being spoilt :)

If someone is holding a gun at your head, whether he is right or wrong in holding the gun, or if he shoots and you die did any justice to you and what's to go inside your will is a secodnry matter. First you need to get the damn gun off your head!

Thanks

What we need are the statistics that form the basis of his viewpoint.

How do we know he's done his homework?

Where's the evidence that they are? Again: numbers.

Nothing wrong to ban night packages. I think no one will condemn it
while everyone knows the usage of such "night packages". They're
really being misused. Not sure But I don't think so there would be any
such thing in other countries where teens are provoked to avail such
packages.

Rahi baat about the politician, He does not care about Pakistanis. I
have a theory that some lady in his family would have been caught in
some "immoral activities" hence he would have decided to ban all
services for night :>

Technocrates does not like Bureaucrates does not like Politicians does not like common people does not like their previliges taken away because technocrates are smart to convince Bureaucrates that fresh air can grasp more revenue and politicians want to tax it but desire to have immunity on it

I think this is something which should've come from our top technological minds. As spiderman said "With great power comes great responsibility." i think with Technology comes responsibility as well.

Its true that Investors don't want their infrastructure to sit idle even for a second, but we must not forget our identity as Muslims and our social values.

There is no sense in lowering rates at night just to utilize your infrastructure resulting in activities which are contrary to our moral and social values. If someone has to make an important call at night he will make it even if its 100 Rs per min.

Regards,

Asad.

I will not actually support the existance of night packages, however,
what i can comment on is the need of education and or educated open
minded people "up there". Keeping everything aside, ristricting
anything is not a solutions, whether it be pillion riding night
packages or use of cell phone. Everything comes with its pros and
cons. Obviously those youngsters are affected by the use of night
packages, but then again what good is going to happen if they block
night package? They'll go online! They'll talk on ptcl, they'll go out
and stay out for long...

Point is, restricting people is not the solution, it is actually
depriving them of what they believe is their "right". You block one
way, they'll find another way, untill you give them the reason "why"
not to do something they will keep doing what they want to do.

Before Humpty Dumpty was illustrated as an Egg by Lewis Carroll in his novel 'Alice through the looking glass', it was orginally labeled on a Cannon used in the civil war that was placed on top of some wall. 99.99% of the world believes how Lewis Carroll illustrated Humpty Dumpty, few know it was a Cannon. Being Cannon is a hard-fact but being an Egg is someone's imagination. Most of the time your imagination is so strong and beautiful that once you start illustrating it, people believe you! - Politics is a similar branch. :)

Thanks.

I think nadirs suggestion is the best,

Lets come up with some ideas on to take advantage of the night packages

And convince the telecoms to promote that way

So a few that come to my mind

1. Distant learning via phone
2 transfering call center agents calls to cellphone to work from home
3. Allowing cheaperinternational calls for call centers and soho
busineses to move traffic to their netowork, as nights are peak office
hrs
