Telematics in Pakistan

curious to see if anyone here is working on telematics solutions in
Pakistan or in South Asian region?

@Babar...The Rawalpindi City Police Dept representative in a TV show shared his experience about the stolen car problem and said that users to blame for going for fancy telematic solution while there are ways to defunct them.

 

The highest cadre officer told about his achievement that he asked all Suzuki car owner to use normal lock for steering lock (American Made)-Most of Suzuki Mehran owner did use this locking arrangement.

 

He further said that almost 70-80% are Suzuki owner and will be safe with this locking. For rest of 20-30% car owners, they use expertise of a local mechanic to customize a hardware for making same arrangement for other make/model of cars.

 

Now this is the thinking of authorities who can promote a high end telematic solutions by building user confidence...which is not the case in Pakistan.

BUT NEVER BE PESSIMISTIC...GO FOR THE CHANGE :)

@fawad: while being pessimistic is one aspect, the other is the alarming rate at which electronic solutions fail, especially the newer ones. when we got our first car alarm installed in 2000, it would mess up more often than not. then ofcourse, there's the whole case of an electronic system burning out (i had two car systems on different cars where the main control box burnt to a crisp :S over the last 8 years), and the list goes on n on.

then you have the high cost of maintenance of a computer based car. think EFI and the maint. cost associated with that. so yea, high tech solutions are not for the masses yet, and the rawalpindi police are doing a public service by informing the public on car lock usage! the same was done in khi a couple years back too i think.

@babar: telemetics is a good service, but it requires the supporting services to be in place too, otherwise you have a very high tech car with no one to call :) nowadays, at least in islamabad, i'm seeing roadside assistance in full swing by the traffic police, which is a very good sign. i think we can be ready for these services in a couple of years.. alteast the accident informing ones.

I would like to commend Babur to unearth the modus operandi of
Telematics. But in Pakistan, we need to reveal the tip-off as for now
how much of us are familiar with the technology and willing to pay for
this service. Availability with affordability is the bottom line for
such services after awareness. This can be a good example of emergency
management system or disaster management or prevention system, if
installed with all permutations.

Warid's site mentions a short dial code (811) for Trafco vehicle
tracking service. Last year Trafco Tracking announced an MoU with IBM
Pakistan for the vehicle tracking solution. Warid provides the voice
and data for Trafco. Does any one know more about this service from
Warid and if there are any other companies active in vehicle tracking
for consumers?
