Hi TGP.

i am having random disconnection issues with my PTCL DSL connection,
according to their support guy distance from the exchange could be the
cause of the disconnection, i was wondering if this is the case. my
home is around 3km away from the exchange.

Regards,
-mustafa

It depends on the copper conditions as well, usually 3 km is a
distance where dsl works however if the copper quality us bad or any
other issues on copper pair you might face problems.

Ask your provider to check if they have REACH dsl port available. It
should work .... If the distance is an issue...

Mustafa,
Ground distance of cable can be more. As per my experience,DSL must be
ok within 4Km ground distance.

@Mustafa
check whether your line is synched to your desired bandwidth rate or above. usually what operator do ....they put high BW line profile on your DSL port and control your bandwidth from BRAS....so if your getting synched to high BW ask them to get it reconfigured on your desired one (this will reduce the noise impact and improve SNR).
If it is synched to your required BW asked them to degrade........ this would be the only solution to attain stability at your current DSL flavor :). ReachDSL is a good option...if it is available with your provider (usually with higher cost)

Distance issues may prevent the actual CIR to be delivered and it will not cause the line to disconnect. Disconnection issues could be due to bad copper, too many HOPS (DP's)  etc.

You can ask your SP to check the end to end line quality.

Rehan

Dear all,

It could be as follows:-

1. Bad Performance and Moisture due to the age of the cable.
2. Faulty Port at the DSLAM.
3. It culd be a common problem for other Users (Pls ckeck with Others).
4. Local fault at home (Cable or Loose connection, DSL Filter). Try to connect yr PC directly to the line without Telephone, and check.
5. Intermittant fault in the Core network or Inet Platform (ATM network for instance).
6. Use a Laptop connected directly at the Exchange MDF.
I suggest to reduce the Speed from for instance 512K to 256K and try it. I hope it works.

Pre-qualification test of the line to be conducted. Thanks

Rgds,

Aziz Khamis

Reducing uplink to 1/4th of the downlink (on DSLAM port, NOT on BRAS) might help in stabilizing the link.

There is a very simple solution of this,if you can get hold of any
lineman then try getting your copper pair changed of the telephone
line.Ask him to provide you the best available pair from cabinet till
your CPE.
