Dear friends,

We, as Muslim Umma, are passing through very, very hard time as blasphemous film has created difficult situation in many parts of the Muslim world including Pakistan. I was wondering if we have the kind of talent needed to hack youtube or any other related site on global scale? I am sure that nor the US has the will or neither youtube would remove this film from its web site so it in the interest of general public for someone /a group of IT geniuses to hack or block it on global scale rather than letting these protesters destroy themselves/or public property.

What's your thought guys??

BR,
Muhammad Asif

I think what you are suggesting is highly unethical and perhaps illegal. Hacking is not a proper way to protest - if you like, you can boycott their services. The video was out there from a while until we as a "Muslim Umma" found it and spread it. An ordinary person in the west wasn't even aware of that until we started burning things down. This thread would go out of the topic so I'll hold my comments on how we are protesting. IMO, a simple ignore, patience, mosque open days and more community work is the right answer.

thanks,
Shakeel

Have you tried contacting PIE/ITI? They have good experience of doing the same what you are requesting.

Just a thought.

I believe he is referring to the Youtube blackout episode that PIE caused a few years ago by announcing reachability for the Youtube prefixes on BGP.

Are you referring to 2008 incident:

PCCW Pins Youtube Outage Responsiblity on PTCL's Internet Exchange (PIE)

"The PTCL guru advertised a /24 prefix for the Youtube.com address space. From Google, a /22 was advertised. So the longest match rule forced the traffic to go to PCCW which in turn went to PTCL which was then dropped because of the null route."
