Zong buying Telenor OR Telenor buying Zong is absurd !!!!!!!!!

Kindly tell me can someone justify acquiring the same domain operator...is there any synergy?

Lol.

Its not exactly a rumour. But telenor does want to dilute by addition
of an external investor. Doesn't have to be a teleco.

Could be anyone. But telenor won't let go of controlling share. Its
against their global business model.

Doubt this will ever happen. Telenor's one of those operators who have
some fromt-dealings with the government - well - atleast they did.
Secondly, they have one of the highest ARPUs in the industry, so why
would they let go, would not make sense. Thirdly, such strategies tend
to surface only when a company isn't doing well. Warid - can make
sense. PTCL/Ufone - can make some sense. Mobilink - not sure. But
Telenor and Zong is a major faux pas for anyone who's specuated the
news

I was reading Top 10 good & bad reasons for an acquisition;
www.swaab.com.au/publications/acquisitions.pdf

suppose if Zong is buying telenor it does NOT necessary mean Zong is
strong to Telenor is poor performing company.

In list 10th reasons seems logical to me "Stopping or limiting
opportunities for a key competitor" this market is on cut-throat
competition now , we should expect mergers and acquisitions in future.

However this 1 rumour :)

Telenor (as a group) has never given majority stakes to any one. This
is groups history, however I don't see any issues even if zong wants
to take the minority stakes.

- Telenor's hurdles in its investment in India
- Their recent reshuffle in top level management
- Establishment of a Telenor Intl subsidiary in Pakistan (Apparently to manage financial matters)

Sounds lil adventurous - but again, its still a rumor

BTW a high level source told me there already went 3 meetings between China Mobile (China admin) and Telenor Intl - but no words on the outcome. (Not confirmed by local administration though)

Yes that's true , they have formed a company to provide financial
services to both their own group and externaly as well.

Telenor Group has taken a long term position in Pakistani market. The company recently acquired stakes in First Micro Finance Bank and I know they the bank is working to increase its outreach using Telenor infrastructure.

For the following reasons I feel the information is not credible:

- Such activities are seen for companies who are not doing well, which
is contrary to Telenor’s success
- There is no logical reason why Telenor would like to go for it
- Recently there was a gossip that Zing had visited Mobilink’s Head
Office in efforts to struck a deal
I feel Zong is intentionally spreading this rumor. You know what I
mean 

I guess mainly if such a decison is underway it would be becasue security and nothing else. Norway embassy is facing some tough time operating in Pakistan and there is a rollback possibility of their ops. While the previous government spent great amount of money of war on terror by making new technology and software companies for their childeren in SV California, I wonder if the said amount is spent in the right direction now, as we speak.
