We had one in Islamabad for a few hours last night (around 9ish). Had
sort of hoped it was a precursor to another coup or the start of a
revolution, but was probably Ufone performing maintenance.

The greates loss is what dies inside you while you live ....!
Ufone outage was observed in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and
Faisalabad. It was stated at approx. 2pm and was ended at 10pm approx.
I was able to call ufone call center around 5:00 pm and they told me
that this is happening due to server up-gradation and they don't know
how long it would take to resolve.
Interesting thing after calling to customer support I was able to call
any where except Ufone numbers :)

I believe Operator can not afford to down its services for the up gradation
in "Day time". There must some issues related to MSC causing the service
outage.

If Ufone was performing "server upgrade" then why were the customers not
informed before hand about this upgrade and expected outage? And if it was
just customer support not coming clean about the failure then I don't
understand what is wrong with actually accepting that there is a technical
problem and our staff are working hard to resolve it as soon as possible. I
guess not telling the truth is a norm in our society be it at personal level
or at professional one.
