A while back I posted that I had recently purchased a used VR bike but
the monitor didn't work. Just for future reference (in case anyone
else runs across this same issue), here's the outcome: The bike I
bought worked, but the monitor was dead. I searched my local Yellow
pages and found a business that repaired monitors. I took apart my
bike and removed the monitor assembly (tube + circuit board + metal
frame) and took it to the repair shop (this prevented me from having
to haul the entire VR Bike there). The repair ended up being pricey -
$200 for the picture tube + $100 labor, but I'm sure that both part
and labor will vary greatly from city-to-city and shop-to-shop.
If you end up needing to repair or replace your monitor, here are two
suggestions:
1. Take pictures of everything as you are taking it apart (and be sure
to get close up pictures of the parts as you are disconnecting them).
When it comes time to put everything back together again, the pictures
will help and will provide a reference point.
2. When you take your monitor in to the repair shop, be sure to also
bring the metal back plate that sits behind then monitor. The plate
has the horizontal and vertical controls and is needed to adjust the
picture. (I ended up having to make a second trip to the repair shop)
