If memory serves, we moved up this month's meeting as well; and, the
meeting is at Celery. Can anyone confirm that?

What's on the agenda?

Mark and I have been working on a technique to return a polymorphic
Child from a call to Parent.new based on environment. So, for example,
if Pug extends Dog, and based on environment you always want a Pug
when you call Dog.new, we've worked out a way to do that. This is a
key piece of the puzzle in considering porting our Membership software
from Java to Rails. We could talk a bit about that if people are
interested.

So, who's going to be there?

I myself have been knee deep in Groovy code since the last meeting.
This lead to a bit more research on JRuby support for Java integration
and Charles Nutter has a JRuby branch that will create Java classes
(ie a .class file) from a Ruby source file. This is a really really
cool stuff. It opens the possibility of using Ruby to implement Java
interfaces and use it transparently with Java frameworks on the JVM.
If I have time today I will do some more research and report tonight.

Also, I'm going to be presenting about Ruby at the January Capital
District Java Developers Network meeting. So, I may need some backup.
I'll post the date, time and place when I get it.

I think I going to have to pass tonight.. Seems I've got some kind of
wicked cold. Was 103.2F last night, and feels like someone kicked me
in chest/ribs multiple times. So I stuck in bed taking lots of drugs
all day hoping to recover.

Have a good time tonight.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it either, but I hope to see everyone next month!

Being the loyal n00b, I'm planning on being there, unless someone
calls it due to a plague of... well, plague...

Well, I think Jim is out with the arrival of his daughter. I'm going
to call him and check in. I'm wondering if this makes sense? Neal are
you on here? Thoughts?

Can't make it, unfortunately. I've been playing with Monkeybars and
Swinger, and I would have liked to introduce that...

Doesn't Rawr already do that? Or can't those class files be called
from Java?

That sounds fascinating.

I heard bits of the cookie recipe last night... Do you suppose I could
get it from you, Linda? :)
