it that way except for TVRB ... how else will I find time to pity my turning
30 that day? ;)

Sorry I had to cut out early.  My SCU (Spousal Control Unit)  got
either a stomach bug or food poisoning  (I am voting on the former
since my daughter ate the same food, and didn't get sick...).   So I
had to run home, shed my nerdy exterior and go back into dad mode.
Since if momma isn't happy, aint nobody happy.

So now onto next month...

SCU is feeling a bit better this morning.  But she got up and got a
bit dizzy so went to throw up and my 23 month old daughter looked at
her, laughed and said Mommy Throwing up Pee Pee...

Sorry I had to cut out a bit early myself, had car work that needed doing
before this morning.

I'm looking at buying a Mac ... mostly for web app testing purposes, but if
it happens to do a lot more for me, that's fine too.

Technically, I could get away with a Mac Mini ... but a nicely portable
notebook might be worth the investment. Trying not to get lavish with
spending.

The Macbook 13" is probably the most cost effective answer here ... but the
Air, or an MBP 13" with SSD, are pretty sexy, if more expensive, options ...

Any input you all had to offer, I'd certainly love to hear it, thanks in
advance.

I did the same recently, few months ago I broke down and made the
switch (mostly driven by Rails interest).  I went with the 13' macbook
for the same reasons and have never looked back.  It is truly a
superior machine to anything i have used before.  There is a 'refurb'
section somewhere on apples site where u can find factory rebuilt
machines of all types fully backed by the same apple care as new for
about 30 percent savings.  Thats what I did and couldn't be happier, I
think i spent about 1300?  Figured i would spend 1100 on a nice new
PC, why not spend an extra 200 for the real thing?

just my 2 cents

Sorry i had to pull a disappearing act, my plans were sane but they
suddenly decided to change on me (hence my kidnapping)

But i'll be back next month,

The white macbook is still pretty powerful... but might still be
better to go for the 13" Macbook pro, its just more powerful. Right
now i'd trade space for flash drive any day particularly on a machine
i wanted as my main computer...

Also if you are doing development the ability to have VMs on hand
makes life so useful, my main criticism of OS X is a primitive package
management system, so for my web development i usually use a LAMP
style server (although technically my "LAMP" server is currently an
LAMPgPPyR :) )

I have vmware fusion on my MBP, and it is indeed handy.  Suns Virtual
Box (based on Xen) is available for OSX and is free. So no excuse not
to have it :)

mac ports really isn't that primitive/horrible, at least to me...

My server would be FARPs then.. (FreeBSD, Apache, Ruby,
Postgres..) :)

When I bought my macbook pro i got it $200+ cheaper via Amazon.  Check it
out, they often have the previous version there at even better prices.

Even means i can use windows on occasion without having it as my main
os :P

Its functional, but the updated nature on Ubuntu/Debian trees (and the
lack of need to compile) makes my life a lot easier when i want to
configure something...

I use mac ports (used to use fink) but it still can be a pain compared
to apt...

Actually i forgot my django media is actually proxied off of a
lighttpd server so i think that would be a LALhPgPPyR ...
